There are kiosks on Broadway where you can buy unsold tickets for that days shows. USS Intrepid, a WWII aircraft carrier now an air & space museum. Take a Circleline boat tour around Manhattan Island or the longer trip up the Hudson River to The Cloisters. Radiocity Music Hall. St. Patricks Cathedral. Ground Zero is a moving experience. See the Statue of Liberty. South Street Seaport. The Empire State Building. The Brooklyn Bridge. Eat some REAL pizza and go into some REAL deli's. Tavern on the Green has a pre-theater menu from 5 to 7 PM, reasonable prices for N.Y. Central Park. Museum of Natural History. Hayden Planetarium.
Note: Cabs are a good way to get around if it's too far to walk.
I hope this helps.

Jim & Vickie covered a lot but there's also Ellis Island, Times Square, Riding the subways, the United Nations building, visit the Museums (you can spend days there). Take carriage rides through Central Park. Central Park has a lot to see and do all by itself. There's also Battery Park, in-town tour buses, and helicopter rides.

Eat in China Town, eat in Little Italy, eat at Gray's Papaya hotdog restaurant. Try the Knishes and hotdogs from the street vendors. To fit right in, get mugged, cuss somebody out, flip somebody off.... doh, sorry, getting way too much into it. Talk to a cop (those guys are fun)... OI'M Tawkin' heah!

Go to a Yankee game at their new stadium in the Bronx.

You could spend two weeks staying busy there, easily. The city never sleeps, it's not just a slogan! DO NOT dress like a tourist! We've done everything but the tour buses or helicopter rides or get mugged.

Phil, if you and Cathy do get to visit the USS Intrepid please let me know what you think of her. I served on the
Fighting "I" in 1970-71. I hope to get there one of these years to see her again for myself.

Phil,
Art added all the things that I couldn't think of late last night. Make sure Ellis Island is on your list.
Doug,
The Intrepid is also a must. It's one of the best air and space museums I've ever been in.

If you get west of NY on RT80 stop by and say hello. We are home as Betty is still in recovery mode from her knee surgery. Exercise 5 x daily and 3 x week to the PT office. No traveling for us this summer.

Phil,
We also toured the USMA at West Point and toured/had dinner at Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in Hyde Park. Interesting tour and great food! Make reservations for the tour and dinner (cooked and served by their students). Enjoy!

FDR's home in Hyde Park is good. A day trip to Rhinbeck is fun too, antiques and they have an airshow and museum of old planes.

If you go to West Point, try to go on Monday and go on the extended tour (no self-tours permitted) ... you'll get to see all 4,000 cadets march to the parade grounds then on to mess. It's an amazing sight!

Also ... try to get to Sleepy Hollow and take the tour of Washington Irving's home, as well as the Sleepy Hollow cemetery and all the other sites that inspired Irving's stories.

A picture from West Point for you..

Also, over near Bethel is Yasgur's Farm, the site of Woodstock 1968. There is a big sign on the barn, "Yasgur." We talked a bit with the current owner and he let us walk around and take pictures, no problem. There's an old box truck out in a field you can walk out to. It still has the peace signs and other signs in and on it. It's left over from the festival.

The town of Woodstock is also an interesting place although a bit touristy these days. And driving up into the Catskills is nice. Very pretty. We have good friends who live near there so were able to get some good tours.

Seinfeld's diner, the one on the tv show, is now in Liberty, NY. It's called The Munson Diner.

There are also a couple of lighthouses on the Hudson. We saw only one but I understand there are more.

Have fun. That's a neat area.

Good point on places outside New York City. If are there for two weeks, an occasional jaunt away from downtown will be well worthwhile. At many of the tourist venues will be free handouts for other places in and out of the Manhattan area.

If you were a fan of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Jersey Boys is a very good play. Saw it in Vegas a few days ago and really enjoyed it.

We saw Mama Mia at Christmas and it was great! If you want to adventure out to Long Island, Teddy Roosevelt's house at Sagamore Hill is terrific.

I'm sure you will visit Grand Central Station, and when you do go to the Oyster Bar, it is a grand ole place.

Wow, such great help. Today we went on a tour from the KOA in Newburgh. We went to: Empire State Bldg, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Battery Park, Chinatown, Times square (even got cheescake at Junior's, across from the Marriot. Went by: Central Park, Trump Towers, Wall Street, to check on my money, HA! Tomorrow we are planning a morning of rest, this sightseeing is strenuous, then off to West Point to tour and watch the potential "butter bars". Sunday will be a Broadway show (Matinee), with lunch in Times Square via the Beacon Street Train into Grand Central, then the bus or a short walk to the theater district. Many, many, many people here! Rheinbeck and Intrepid are on the list as are the presidents homes. Cathy said she fulfilled a lifelong dream by seeing the Statue of Liberty. I'm glad to have caused that.......Well, time for shower (hot and humid today) and a good nights sleep. Thanks everyone and keep the suggestions coming.......

Buy the best chocolates on the planet at Richart's (flown in from France every day). Buy something at Bloomingdales. Walk up the east side of Central Park and see where your money went...or just go see the Intrepid for at least a couple of hours.

Took the train from Beacon station to Grand Central Station, went by the Oyster bar but haven't eaten there yet. Took a taxi to the theater district, ate lunch at the most expensive Olive Garden in the world, went to Marqui theater to see 9 to 5, wifes and sisters choice, good show, Allison Janey is a very talented woman. Then got a taxi, actually had to hail one down, back to Grand Central after a stop at a Starbucks. Figured out which train to take back to Beacon Station, then had a stuffed pretzel and a large pretzel, then boarded the correct train for home. Great day. Only three words to say about Times Square: TOO MANY PEOPLE!!!!!! All in all had a great day. Tomorrow will be the FDR Home and Farm. Tuesday we move from the KOA to the Yogi Bear Park (Yeah), Isn't it time for the kids to go back to school yet?

Thursday, my BIL and I are taking the train and subway to Yankee Stadium for a tour then the subway to the Intrepid and hopefully won't get too lost. Will be looking to eat a "Dirty Dog" sometime during the day.

As you can tell, we are having a ball. Friday we are taking a Tall Ship Cruise around Manhattan Island and visiting the South side Seaport.

Saturday we will be doing the carriage ride in Central Park.

Sunday a double decker ride around the city and that will probably wrap up our stay here, Then it is off to Boston......

Oh yeah, We had Cheesecake from Junior's also. To die for......
