New Kind of Hitch?
Has anyone else seen this thing? Seems kind of cool but not sure how practical it really is.

Those have been around for a while. Not very practical except in special cases such as a lifted truck or a truck without enough payload capacity to carry the 5er.

We would love one. But it costs over $12K and then I'd need a bigger F550 dually cause we'd put our 'doghouse' truck camper in truck bed to haul our 'villa'. Wife says no way!

I have some Trailer Life magazines from the 60s and 70s and there are advertisements for similar hitches.

I've seen them. Talked to a guy who had it. he couldn't stop talking how much he liked it. Me, I have not ran out of other things I need to spend money on first.

In NY State it would need a license plate and then an inspection sticker yearly. Then if you used a toll road, more fee dollars. You might also need to register your truck as a tractor and possibly need a CDL. Since we are already at 58 feet combined, could possibly 'qualify' for oversize load and only driven on weekdays and only daylight hours without special DOT permissions

back in the 75 time frame our military van on a four wheel dolly was illegal to tow on the interstate in NC. It is like a farm hay wagon. Laws may have changed now. Just a thought. parking the fifth wheel would be "B". just like a farm hay wagon.

Be careful some folks might go for that if they want an SUV for a daily driver........

I read the article. Not impressed. It looks like a really expensive fix for a problem that does not exist. And while the mfg. may say it is safer, I really question if that is true or not. Especially if folks start using these things to tow with an underrated tow vehicle!!

tow dolly
Lucy and Desi Arnaz used a similar tow dolly to pull a park model travel trailer in the movie The Long Long Trailer (1954) funny movie.

If you properly size the tow vehicle, you don't need this device.
