2011 Chevy HD Numbers

Got an E-mail from Chevy today with the 2011 specs. You might already know but here they are:

This is the 3500 Dually numbers, Diesel, of course.

HP: 397
Torque: 765ft/lbs
5th Wheel Tow Capacity: 20,000lbs
GCWR: 27,500lbs
GVWR: 13,000lbs
Payload: 5,764 (NOTE: Of course, they don't list the empty weight of these trucks so this figure can slide)

BTW: I'm not trying to sell these trucks or start a "Brand" War, just passing out the latest information. Seems pretty impressive. I know one of the other brands has higher figures, I just hadn't seen these yet.....

Pretty impressive, but I wonder what kind of mileage these new beasts will be getting.

Phil what I have read so for looks as though GM will have a awesome 1 ton 3500HD and the fuel mileage is supposed to be much better. Many changes to frame, brakes etc. But we want know until the end users puts it on the road. Ford also says their fuel mileage will increase. GBY....

Not that I need a new truck, but I have never been one to buy the "First Edition" of anything. Maybe richfaa needs to look at this one..

Phil does that mean that GMC or Chevy is putting 4:10 and higer gears in there trucks? that why I didnt buy chevy I had to get 373 gears in a 1 ton CC, DRW, long bed in 2009.
I knoe that I can get just about anything I want from Ford, I cant say as much for Dodge I think they would only offer me 4:10.

It looks like as thor says, they are sticking with the 3.73 for the diesels, some of their gassers are available in 4.10 and 3.73.

Generally speakings the more HP these trucks have the better the fuel millage. The bow-tie division makes a great truck, probably the most trouble free of the bunch, and this is coming from a Ford driver. Thase trucks just keep getting better.

I have never had any reason for a lower gear in mine than the 3.73. Pulls strong even in the mountains.

Don, my Dodge has the 3.73 axle. 4.10 was an option in 2007.

The vaious truck mags will no doubt compare the trucks once they are all in market. Prelim engineering documents released by Ford and Chevrolet on their 2011 units indicate some discrepancies in their claims and potential performance. It's early but the buyer should really do homework on models they like or are loyal to. Not buying this year, but am always drawn to new. I like both so far.

Same here. With hp and torque these current diesels develop, I sure don't want more than the 3.73:1 gearing.

Dennis is wright. If you are going to buy a new truck drive all 3 several times compare, take notes. Look for what is important to you. You might wont a great sound system, nice seats, quiet interior, noisy interior, great engine, big wheels etc. Every body thinks theirs is the best, and it will be IF they have compared. You will never know whats best for you if you don't compare. Motor Trend wonts a race truck but they are not going to pull a camper. Look at what they say but be too influenced by it. Just remember the Chevy Vega was the 1973 Car Of The Year.

The Motor Trend car/truck of the year is a joke most years anyway. They only consider all new models. In most cases only one manufacturer comes out with an all new truck in any given year, so the winner was usually the only candidate to start with. This year will be different as the Ford and Chevy launch their new HD trucks the same year. GM models only use the 3.73 rear end for mileage reasons, so the Fords with the lower geared rear ends will have the edge in max towing capacity naturally. A 4.11 vs. a 3.73 increases towing by thousands of lbs. at least, but if you don't need it you're just giving up fuel mileage. Especially when you're not towing.

I did that, drove all three, then made my choice. What I am finding is that all three can do the job and that anything beyond what is needed is just extra. In other words, bragging rights is nice but any of the three do a fine job.

Actually, Greg, isn't Ford's base axle something down around 3.20 or so, for mpg certification purposes? If MT only uses the base model, then the Ford would be at a decided disadvantage when towing. Dodge's base is 3.73. I agree, though, that MT only considers those trucks they consider as all new or so significantly changed to be perceived as all new. I remember awhile back the Ford was not even considered because it was not "new" enough. I'd prefer they test all that are available and have them equipped as equally as possible.

Steve, I have no idea what ratio Motor Trend will use in their trials on the Fords. I agree it would be good if they compare trucks with similar gear ratios. Some guys swear by the lower geared trucks though. I myself prefer the mileage. I would only want a lower gear if it were necessary to do the towing I needed.

gm lower gear ratio of 3.7.3 thats the sweat spot for gm s rev to low a ratio the engine will lug and add extra heat to the engine and drive train the 410 rear end makes the engine rev higher less lugging of the engine.but uses more fuel. people that sled pull ae still using 373 rear ends. torquing the engine and drive train to four times the torque that we pulling trailers will ever see all with no problems
