I frankly would prefer a rhinestone studded V-gate (Long story here if you go back into the archives and check out previous tailgate threads) but I'm old fashion and still use my OEM tailgate and just drop it before hitching up! With the Bedsaver, I won't hurt the TV bed if I mess up too!
I believe that was a a polished chrome plated rhinestone studded v-gate, wasn't it????

He had 18 responses before we contributed our thoughts. If the message wasn't there, I'm sorry.

BTW, according to extensive tests done on dieselplace.com, there is no evidence a v-gate or no gate provides any better mileage than with the tailgate in.

I agree with you on that, I just think they are great for hook up and disconect, I didnt see any increese in milage either when I had mine, but it was nice not having to go and drop the gate. or if you forgot to drop it when you hooked back up. it did stop a lot of air turbulances when hooked up, things did semm to stay put. a lot less rope.

You're right about the turbulence.

The only problem I had with the OEM tailgate was with a long bed if you had to hook up at a sharp angle to the trailer, the gate will hit the trailer. So I do run a shorter custom made gate.

mtheo I can have my tailgate, or my v-gate down and do any turn needed, I think that you might have a pin box that puts the pin strate down, mine comes out about 18 inches. thats the only thing I can seethat would cause that kind of a probblem in turning. but looking at your signature picture you have the sane pinbox I have.

I had a louvered tailgate on my '06 F-350. When I bought my '10 I was reading the owner's manual and the way I read it, it said the tailgate is designed to help with the aerodynamics and should be left up/on. Also mine has the Back-up camera in it and would be a "pain" to remove.

I use the OEM tailgate for a number of reasons. There is no evidence that a V gate increases MPG, also, with the OEM gate, when I get to the CG, I unroll my tonneau cover, close the gate and all is out of sight. BTW, I keep my spare in the bed of the truck too.

I was advised to use a V gate (and do) because it wasn't so much the damage caused if you left the stock tailgate up but when.
My neighbour laughed at the idea.........$2000 later, he now has a V gate.

Peter, If damage was caused by dropping 5er off hitch, looks like a bedsaver would have been a better investment.
