2011 Ford - Highest Tow Rating

A friend sent this article to me on the 2011 Ford. Very impressive - check it out:http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2010/03...ty-part-1.html

Check out the April Trailer Life Magazine. It has a good article on the 2011 Ford Super Duty, hauling a Montana 3750FL. Very informative article.

Yes, I really like those new towing capacity numbers which are more realistic for the bild of the truck. I'll still wait a year or so before replacing my 09 to ensure they have built a quality engine. What I also like is, they kept the truck as a truck and hopefully you can work the he## out it with great results. Actually can't complain with my 09 as it is 18 months old, pulled 80% of the time and has never been back for any warranty issues.

Thanks, Steve. Very impressive. I've read numerous articles by this same online magazine and they tell it like they see it. I do see they were wrong about one thing, though. They say the up/down shift button on the shift lever actuates a display on the dash but the Dodge does not have the display. Wrong. My 2007 has the display showing what the current locked gear is at. Otherwise, very good article.

Rich, Don't take your current TV in for an oil change and WAIT for it. Drop it off and come back when it is ready. OR do like I did, take it in for an oil change, browse the lot and drive a new one home!!!!........Everybody loves a shiny new truck!!!!! AND with the new towing numbers, perhaps a Big Sky could be in the offing.........Go ahead, spend some of that federal pension.........lol

Impressive #s for sure. Just hope the engines are up to the test for 100K. If they had Cats or TCD's I would be driving one.

The tow ratings listed in the article are for the F-450 not a F-350. The other brands of trucks they listed (Chevy and Dodge) were 3500s. Compare apples to apples why don't they?

Does Chevy and Dodge have an equivalent to a F 450, or a step up to the 3500??
Even the F350 is rated now at 21,000 with a fifth wheel hitch, which is impressive to me.
I like that horsepower with 390 at the lower rpms (2800) and torque now 750 foot pounds at 1600 rpm.
I am sure the race will be on with the big three in this series of trucks over the next few years again!!

I think we should support the only company that didnt use our tax dollars to stay in business. I own a Dodge now and would not buy another one or a GMC for that matter.

I agree with BigAl52,but I have always been a FORD truck man. Anyways for those of you that knew Duramax quit making the engine there for about 6 months, now I'm guessing why. Since Ford came out with number on their new engine guess what-YEP! I just read where Duramax numbers are now more than Ford. 395HP and I think 797Lbs.

I just hope there will be a big three. Would not like to see only one company. I think G.M will come back... Think Dodge will be history.

I have been buying GM's all my life and never ever have had any serious issues and GM always took care of the small issues. As for the GM Duramax/Allisons there is no doubt that its a proven Combo and GM has only made improvements to the Combo. And the 2011's will be a winner.

As we all know every year the HP and Torq ratings change, as for my opinon, I think the Duramax has plenty of HP, but thanks to the EPA the fuel mileage has been taken away. And we all know when you increase HP it requires more fuel. But GM says the fuel mileage will go up with the addition of Urea?? But they are still using the DPF???

When GM almost tanked and would have if it hadn't been for the Tax payers, I decided no more GM Trucks or Cars for us. And it looks like GM will not pay us back, and will still owe Tax payers over 6 Billions dollars. So I sold our 2008 Chevy 3500HD. And bought another Truck. However we needed a small lite weight car because we double tow, we did the research and GM had the only Car that fit our needs and GM had the only 1/2 Truck that fit our my needs. I went back to GM and it wasn't easy. It was a personnel decision, is GM the best, not sure but its the best for our needs. It wasn't because the buy American thing, it seems that more Foreign made Cars and Truck are being built in America that the Big 3. Why is that??? GBY.....

Rich, I think Chrysler/Dodge will be history but Ram will continue. I suspect the spin off of the trucks to a separate Ram corporation was to allow the trucks to stay out of any mess of bankruptcy and/or liquidation should Chrysler fail.

As for the comment someone made about wondering if Cummins would now change the Dodge diesel to a V8, I say PLEASE NO. It's the inline architecture that gives that engine its terrific low rpm grunt. A V8 might be a little smoother but it would also have to rev higher to make the power. I like that the inline Cummins redline is 3200 rpm and it never screams climbing long steep hills! There's plenty of room in the structure of the current engine to make the modifications to match the new numbers from the other brand.

Steve I agree about the I-6, I'm running a I-6 and your right the low end torq is awesome and it turns very low RPM's. We have the Mercedes I-6 but now Freightliner has went back to Cummins because the Cummings is a little less cost. However the 2008's went to the DPF systems on most large MDTs and up. I had a visitor while in Gulf Shores who has a 2008 Freightliner M2 and he wasn't happy with the emission they were force to use. The Diesel lovers lost a great Diesel when Cat decided not to build the over the Road engines for Trucks any longer, Thanks EPA, just another great Diesel lost. The V-8 Diesels do have to run a higher RPM to get the required torq. If your happy thats what matters. GBY...

Cummins is my favorite of all of the big three. But thats because I have been around them for 40 yrs. As far as GMC and Duramax goes its ashame that we couldnt build that engine here. Thats an Isuzu engine from Japan. Why do American companys keep shipping there work to foreign countries. I have started voting with my money causee none of our politicians care about what we as voters want they all have there own agendas. GMAC had there hand in my tax dollars three times. Now oweing 6 billion to the tax payers. Maybe these companys should think about what they have done to themselves. Therefore the reason for my comment of supporting Ford. Apparently there is other people who feel the same there sales and feedback from customers show voting with there money. I try to do the same anytime I can avoiding purchases of anything made in China
