Good Sam Flying J/Pilot Card
I received one of these fuel cards and have used it 6 times. The first 5 times as I swiped it the fuel price on the pump actually decreased by 6 cents as was promised. Last night, I stopped for fuel, swiped the card, entered the code, and did NOT see the pump price adjust. I pumped anyway and when I checked the receipt, it did NOT remove the discount but yet told me I saved $.43 as the discount. I called the CONTACT phone number and spoke to a representative but they could not tell me why it did not take off the discount. I have to call back Monday.
I believe Rondo posted on this same problem but I could not find that post. Has anyone else had this happen? I would like have ammunition when I return the call.

It's been on several threads on the Good Sam forum. Most of the posters saw the problem and went into the store and the manager corrected the discount saying something in their software screws up on occasion.

Dick - Thanks for the info. Yep, I see many with the same problem. I just hate to go into the store and have to wait. Flying J is just 2 miles from the house and they are the lowest price around for gasoline plus the additional 6 cents makes it about 10 cents cheaper. Diesel cash price is 8 cents a gallon more than local stations.

Most Flying J's are around 10 cents a gallon higher than anyone else around Kansas and Missouri. Since the bankruptcy, they are just not as competitive as they once were. I've become a non-repeat customer.

Pilot/Flying J does not seem to have the business it once had. We have begun seeing prices at various truck stops several cents lower than at Pilot/Flying J. Their discount is what used to draw me as well as having the RV lanes. However, we now frequent them less and less because the discount doesn't amount to anything.

flying j used to take debit card same as cash at the pump. they don't do that any more. the last time i fueled up i ask the cashier about it and she said it is now considered a credit card. i now look for other places to fuel.

When I use my frequent fueler card I still get the cash price with my credit card and the discount, but frequently anymore it's still cheaper down the road. I used to use Flying J exclusively, now I use Gas Buddy exclusively.

We avoid all the big truck stops. IMHO, they are expensive, crowded, dirty, full of discourteous people and generally a PITA.

While at the Good Sam Rally in Phonix, I researched the discount card. I wasn't sure if it was a credit card or just a 'discount' card. Anyway, the Flying J about 5 miles away was 10 cents higher than a small Chevron near the rally. So even with the discount it was still 4 cents higher. Also the Flying J was on the freeway, so maybe those prices are higher to begin with.

They may not be the cheapest or the cleanest, but if you use the Truck Lanes for Diesel you don't have to worry about getting stuck or having someone in their little Rice burner scoot in from the oposite side before you can pull up, or wait 1/2 an hour while they do their grocery shopping. All the above has happened to us while trying to use the slightly cheaper place for fuel. If you're a Good Sam Life Member with the new RV Plus card you can get 8 cents per gal off the cash price of Diesel. Well we use them all the time, probably not, but if out on the road and getting low on fuel, if one is coming up we'll stop and top off vs continueing on and ending up in some place we can't get into or out of.

We don't use FJ. As noted earlier, since they are on the interstate, their prices are higher than normal, and most charge an extra 4 cents to use a credit card.

I use the Visa Platinum I got through my Credit Union that has a 5 pct. discount for gas or diesel. I can also use my kroger discount in conjunction with my visa. That is 20 cents per gal. on the Visa and 10 cents per 100 dollars spent at Kroger.
