No good deed goes unpunished!
Several months back while heading to Eagle River to shop for groceries we were passed by a car doing around 90+ mph. He fishtailed when he pulled out around me and again when he pulled back in. He then repeated the maneuver on the Volvo in front of us. By this time I had Vilas County Sheriff on the phone and had given them the license # and make and color of car. They were waiting for him when he hit the city limits of Eagle River Wi. I later found out that he was back on the road within 2 hours. Today I hear a car pull into the drive and go out to investigate and see a Vilas Sheriff's car. He has a shiny new subpoena for me for this court case on the 9th of Oct. Well ain't this just great? We had planned to be past Devil's Tower by then on the way to Vegas and our workamping job. I have a call in to the Asst District Attorney to see if I can get out of it as there were 5 other subpoenas in the bundle for the same case. So the guy is very popular in town and I hope that the others will be enough to close this case without my help. OH WELL!!!

That is so frustrating!!! You still did the right thing but that doesn't make the subpoena any easier to swallow! Best of luck getting out of it! Hopefully the guy gets some jailtime or something that makes him think twice about driving that way!

The title for your post could NOT have been more perfect. We hope you get out of the court date. Good luck!

Another way to look at it is that you very well may have saved someones life by being a good citizen, the delay in travel is a bummer however. Good on you buddy.

Thanks for speaking up, Dave. It could have been one of us or our kids in the path of that nut. Good luck in Vegas.

Similiar situation occurred with us in Missouri where we were in a fender bender, other driver cited. Both the wife and I were allowed to send notarized statements rather than appearing in person.
