Brake Controller

I am in the process of getting my new truck set up for towing. The shop is trying to sell me the Odyssey brake controller. They say that it works just the same as the Prodigy, only smoother. Does anyone know anything about this controller? Are they just blowing smoke? Should I insist on the Prodigy? I am getting the Draw Tite 18k slider hitch with underbed mounting. It's just like the Reese Signature 18K. The question is what to do about the brake controller. Anybody know??

Welcome rholm to the MOC.

I know nothing about the Odyssey brake controller but I have read nothing but praise about the Prodigy.
In my opinion I would insist on the Pordigy.

I never heard of the Odyssey, either. I have seen several magazine articles that rave about the Prodigy and I loved the one we had. I'd be concerned maybe the dealer either doesn't handle Prodigy or gets a higher profit margin off the Odyssey, or both. If it were me I'd insist on the Prodigy.

I don't know of the Odyssey either, but have a Prodigy and think it is great. Set it and forget it. I would insist on Prodigy.

I did a little searching, trying to find a test of the Odyssey brake controller. I did not find a test but did find the news release announcing the Odyssey back in August, 2004. It sounds like it could be an excellent controller but in the absence of tests and testimonials I don't think I'd want to spend the money to find out. I'd stick with the Prodigy, which I know is excellent. One thing I forgot to look for in the article is whether it works when backing like the Prodigy does. Here's the url for the announcement followed by a picture of the Odyssey.

We have the Prodigy and love it. I espcecially like how easy it was to install myself on our 2500HD. There is a plug-in for it under the dash on the left side and the controler has a plug fitting on the back. I spent $15 more for a cable with the reciprocal plugs on it and had to do NO wire splicing. Installed in 15 minutes. If the dealer won't do the Prodigy, go buy it from Camping World ($1 shipping for orders over $75) and do it yourself!
