Possible propane problem

My Monty has been parked for a couple months. I’m getting ready to head to Texas so I went to check my propane levels using the hot water method. Main tank showed 3/4 full, but the indicator was red. So I turned on the tank and a hiss of gas leaked out. Once I got the valve clear open it quit. Indicator turned green. It’s never leaked gas like that. Seemed all right once the valve was open. Any ideas.

Probably just filling the hose, make sure all the connections are tight.

I’m guessing you mean leaked at the valve handle. Could you feel or smell it.. I’m thinking an O-ring on valve is dried out. One of the reasons they recommend open all the way snug. IF that’s where it’s leaking, not uncommon.. the valve can be replaced, but would price out a new one, as they will only fill them for 12 years before it needs recertification. If it’s the original, I’d replace the tank IMHO

I’ve had several of the LP tank connector hoses leak where the hose is crimped to the fitting on one end or the other. Might want to check those with some soapy water in a spray bottle. Fairly cheap & easy to replace.

I would never take a chance when it comes to LP system. If I had a 10+ year old unit as you have I would replace both tanks, regulator, and ALL soft lines in both tank compartments. Cheap insurance.
