Every trip begins with the thought, you have that. The second step is the plan you are doing that. Then you take the trip. You are ready for that.

Yeah I’m going to do it. I’m going to order the transfer switch, and do what others suggested. Mount the switch by the breaker, cut the line from the shore power while leaving the wires in the breaker, and run 8g wire to the new plug. Do I need to run the wires in a conduit to the front plug?

No run 6 gage wire. I made a mistake it’s 6 gage wire.
You can run smaller wire to the receptacle if you are going to use a 3500 watt or smaller generator. 10 gage is good for 3600 watts. That is what I used on my transfer switch but mine is a 30 amp system.

Ok 6g wire. I’ll be using 2 3500 Inverter / generators so the bigger wire would be better.

Thank you

Tony

Sorry can’t help with that. I installed 2 ATA several years ago. The last two I made but they are manual switches.

So I know where the switch is going I’ll order that today or tomorrow. I can get 6/3 wire at Lowe’s and it’s insulated. Now I need to find some sort of male water proof exterior outlet/plug to plug into. Been looking haven’t found anything. Ideas...?

I asked a friend who’s an electrician he said 6/3 was ok. 6/3 has 4 wires. So I guess I do need a twist lock to 4 prong adapter ..?

https://www.lowes.com/pd/6-3-UF-Wire...e-Foot/3345390

That right..?

I am an electrician...you need 6/4 cord. 6/4 consists of two hot conductors (black and red), one neutral (white) and a ground (green). You want cord because it is approved for damp locations and has an outer jacket suitable for the installation location. UF can be difficult to work with and is not needed for the type of environment.

Thank you !! I’m assuming this would work:
https://www.lowes.com/pd/Southwire-4...-Foot/50148252

So 2 hots and the common and the ground will be wired in to the male 3 prong plug ?

Tony

No I’m thinking you need a 4 prong plug. One for Red, one for Black, one for Common, one for Ground.

Ok thank you. He’s the electrician !! I’m assuming it will wire up like a 4 prong..? Worse case I’m sure it will have instructions.

Last2Die, do your inverter/generators have automatic start on them, and if so, how do they get their signal that the power has gone off, and they need to auto start?
