Hydrolic level jacks

Hi all...

The level jacks on our Montana seem to be a bit low to us when they are fully retracted.

1. How much clearance should they have when towing/retracted?

2. Can we adjust them? (We see extra holes to move them up or down)

We are level when hooked up and towing.

Thanks!

Installation documentation for the 6 point system is hard to find. Probably because LCI doesn't allow you to install them. But the electric system has install doc and they function much like the hydraulic systems.

Take a string from where the tire touches the ground to the low point of the frame at the front and back. The jack needs to be higher than this line. The doc says a minimum of 7". ETrailer says 7-9". You can raise (or lower) them to wherever you want just remember raising the jack will decrease the amount of level correction available to the system. You made need to carry additional level blocks to compensate.

If you decide to move them, be aware they use a Serrated Flange Bolt and a Flange Nut. I seem to recall we had to loosen the nut, not the bolt, when we did it. An impact driver is highly recommended. Be sure to torque the assembly to 90 ft-lbs.

Great find on the manual. I added it to the Files section for future reference.

You will find various experiences but for us we don't move them. The longer the jacks have to go down the more movement you will get in the rig and the more likely you are to get an out of stroke failure. We've full timed for over 80,000 miles and worked winters for Fish and Wildlife so we've taken the rig to places most people wouldn't and haven't had a problem to date.

Ok thx you... we are unhooked and camping now but when we hook back up I will add a pic of the clearance we have n and post it. We would really appreciate if you could take a peak and give us your opinion.
It’s our first 5th wheel and we don’t want to hit anything with the levelers.
Thanks again!
