Suspension Leaf Spring Upgrade???

Hello all. Has anyone upgraded the leaf springs on their 5'er? If so, what do you recommend? Our Monty already has the Mor/Ryde 4000 suspension but was wondering about an upgrade for the leaf springs. Your experienced advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The best upgrade is to the MORryde IS, but it's pricey but gets rid of all the current suspension parts.

Put the IS on our old rig and towed almost 70,000 miles. Loved it. Already have an appointment to get it on the new rig along with disk brakes as soon as the fall rally is over.

Unless you have broken or sagging leaf springs now … new springs will give you no noticeable difference. You could put larger capacity springs on, but your axle will remain at the rating it currently has. Ozz added leaves on one side of his fiver to "level" it up due to one side being heavier, but that's the only example I recall in many years on the MOC. Like mention … the IS suspension upgrade is well liked by people that put many miles on their RV's, but for what we use our rig for … the cost $$$ doesn't justify the means.

After 2 leaf springs broke on 2 different trips, And the inside of 4 new tires wore away after 8,000 miles I decided to,get into it. From the factory, the axles are rated at 6,000 pounds each. The leaf springs were rated at 2,500 pounds each. No wonder the springs broke (also possibly due to age). Also, with the weaker springs, the wheels were bowed out causing the inside wear.

I installed 3,000 pound rated springs (have 1 more leaf than 2,500). Rig sits about 1 inch higher than before, and tires aren't bowed out. Also, both right tires were not properly aligned. Got that fixed.

Leaving on cross country trip next month. Bought tire tread depth gauge and will track tire tread wear to see if my fixes solved the tire wear issue
