Back Up Camera on New Montana's
i read some recent posts on the wireless camera's that come on the new Montana. On our current Big Sky, the camera was always powered. It sounds like the new camera is not on all of the time. Are you able to use the camera while driving down the road? If not, has anyone retired the power so it is able to be used while driving? Thanks in advance.

One would think all that has to be done is rewire camera power to draw from the running lights rather than the backup lights. At least that's the way I understand it. We have just ordered a system from Rear View and that is the way I plan to install as we always run with running lights on.

I wired camera from the outside rear center, through the marker lights, down the fiberglass rear shell, out the bottom, all along the bottom to the propane storage, through the master bath floor fiberglass and out by the hitch. Then the monitor is on the dash. Its cable is under the dash, out the driver's kick panel, under the truck, up through the bed and connects there to the trailer. I have the monitor "on" all the time, so I can see traffic approaching and passing on each side of me. It is also great for knowing when to merge back into a lane after passing. Of course, it is also on when we park at campground. I bought a second tailgate camera hooked up to the reverse lights when I am not using the trailer.

That sorta sounds like a really nightmarish running of the cable? No? I want to do this, but that sort sounded a bit daunting. How long did that take, and is it tidy? Thanks.

We are going with a wireless system from Rear View Safety. We will only have to connect to that center marker light for power to run the camera, no extra wiring after that.

I am waiting to hear back from Montana on how it's connected. It is wireless, and hopefully better than the one's 6 years ago.

Look at the Voyager wireless camera. I had it installed by the dealer. They found a hot line to provide the power. It stayed on constantly until I placed a switch in the line to cut it off when parked. I have not had any issues with reception while driving.

We have a Voyager wireless camera and the power comes from the running light. You must have you parking lights or headlights on when using the camera.

I just got feedback that the new unit gets continuous power.
