Hitch Question

Good morning all.

I have a Reese 16K slider hitch. I have had it for four years. On my recent trip with my Montana, the hitch was making a ton of noise and banging around upon starts and stops. It was not sliding out of position but it was definitely moving a little and causing the noise.

What do I do about this and how do I troubleshoot it? I assume it is not normal.

Thanks.

I had the same hitch but replaced a few weeks ago. My hitch was starting to be a little sloppy also but I do not have any info on how to help with that. Someone will come along soon with some ideas I am sure..

Call Reese's customer service, they've been very helpful to me with other issues and questions.

I had the same problem. Listed it on Craigs List and sold for $250. Purchased new B & W Patriot for $399. No more hitch problem.

I have the same hitch and have pulled with it for about a year. There was a posting on here about using a plastic electrical junction box cap as a washer to take some of the slack out of these hitches. I can't recall who posted pics of this modification but I jumped all over it. I took mine apart, made the modification, greased both places under the head, and put it back together. I have pulled from Illinois to California in the past 2 weeks and I don't hear any noise from my hitch. If you do a search you will probably find the post, it was within the past 2 months I am sure.

I had rectangular spacers made of 1/8 steel, 2"X4" with a slot the size of the bottom of the leg cut out(Plasma cutter) and inserted them on the front portion of the hitch legs. This took out the slack.
The problem is that the tower had wore indentations in the rails. I had four made up but have only used two in the front tower legs. I now have a couple of spares. I may get the indentations filled in one of these days by a good welder.

That fix was for the Signature series hitches. Not sure if it applies to the OP's hitch or not.
