Decisions

Going to buy a portable 50 amp surge protector and wondering the differences between the Progressive Smart Surge and the TLC Surge Guard. I know the physical appearances but not sure about the performance aspects. Would like Plus and Cons on both if possible. I'd rather have the portable than the hardwire so any help would be appreciated!

Oops! Yes Carl, I meant the TRC! Sorry gang!@

I have both, 50amp Progressive and 30 amp surge guard. On the surge guard, the lights are so small, I can't see what is on and what is off in the daylight.

When my Progress industries got water inside it, they said to ship it back and they would fix it for free.

When my Surge Guard started rattling like something was broke inside, they said yup, that happens.....

Ron: Do you mean the TRC Surge Guard v. TLC??? There have been a couple of discussions about the two. The major difference I recall is the Progressive device is warranted for life and the Surge Guard is not.

I can only speak to the Progressive, but it has been a great product.

Progressive has an excellent reputation for standing behind their product. I've not heard anything good or bad about TRC.

Bought a Progressive because of what's been said about the other one. Only complaint is that the lights are difficult to make out in bright sunlight. Also picked up a couple feet of chain w/padlock instead of the plastic thing that's supposed to secure a portable unit.

I have the progressive due to it having the "Life Time Warranty". That made up my mind.

Likewise Progressive here and portable. Life Time Warranty is a pretty strong selling feature for us!

Progressive for me also. IMO you get what you pay for in future service if needed.

After reading all of the great customer service stories, we went with the Progressive hard-wired. It's only too expensive until you wished you had it yesterday.

I've been pleased so far with my Progressive HW50C. I know you asked about the portable but I can tell you that Progressive has been "Johnny on the spot" for me. Expert, knowledgeable timely support (when/if needed). Well worth the $$ IMHO.
