Adding hitch camera to 2015 Ford

Have a 2015 Ford SD F350 Platinum ordered, will be here soon. I know the truck comes with a backup camera system, but does anyone know of an aftermarket add-on that would tie in to the OEM system and allow the driver to see the bed while hitching up a fifth wheel solo?

I just drop the back seat down and I can see the hitch.

I currently have a 2011 Super Duty SRW and have a 2015 Super Duty DRW on order. I wanted to add a front bumper camera to my truck last year and did quite a bit of research into it. The only way that I could come up with to add an addition camera and play it thru the Ford monitor was t add a Lockpick system to the Factory navigation. It was a little costly. (A little over $550) for the camera and the Lockpick system. The Lockpick also opens up the factory navigation system so you can program it while moving. It also allows you to turn on the factory rear camera while on the move. The Lockpick allows you to add 2 additional cameras via RCA connectors. You can monitor any of the cameras while moving.

Different subject: I ordered my 2015 a little over a week ago. Dealer could not give me an estimate on delivery. What is your dealer saying about delivery on your 2015?

I believe in Hard Wire. I highly recommend the Rear View Safety two camera system. Moved it from my old F450 To the new F450. Easy two hour install in trailer, same time on truck. Camera is mounted on my generator box. One person hitching with no wireless interference!

I like the fact it's an independent system, from the Ford Sync in my truck. I just took out two cup holders and placed it on the included stand, then just set it in that cup place. I leave camera on when not hitched. It's run through a DVR in the truck and uploaded to Internet for security purposes. Note: system kit, without DVR cost. $299.00. Installed in truck $95.00 and DIY in trailer. Great system on two years of life!

I side with Jim ... even tough I have an extended cab, I just look over my shoulder right out the back window. Yes, I have a truck box in the bed behind the cab. I do have a hard wired camera on the rear cap of the fiver to keep an eye on the boat when traveling. It is a stand alone system.

I removed the center back head rest on my F350 and can easily see the hitch when backing into the trailer. But I am fairly tall.

I have a small magnetic wireless system but to be honest I quit using it. If I back straight into my Monte slowly, watch my mirrors closely and stay centered I never miss the king pin. I always get out one last time just before I back the last 4 or 5 inches to check height one last time.

The 2015 King Ranch won't be out till mid June. I'm waiting. I was told something about the new colors is the holdout.

I went cheap--a white strip painted on my hitch and on the kingpin. Keep them in line. Easy hitching!

There is nothing wrong with low tech. Sounds like a good plan. I'm not sure if it would work on crew cabs.

I also have a strip of white tape on the hitch and kingpin and just turn around after lowering the seat. I hook up easily every time.

Jim-- Vickie says you have a booster seat in the drivers seat when you hook up so you can see the hitch. Is that true? Actually I use the tape trick myself and it works like a charm. I can see with out lowering the back seat! The problem is I'm getting a budda belly and it's getting harder to turn around to see the hitch!

Rondo,
I resent you saying that I need a booster seat, I use a phone book. I drop the back seat because the center headrest blocks the view. I just can't see spending money on cameras when dropping the seat and turning around is so much cheaper.

I put a strip of white reflective tape on the hitch and pin box and just adjust the rearview mirror (do have to turn around just look in the review mirror). I also have to lower the rear seat in able to see over the seat cover we put on the back seat to protect the leather from our dog (70lbs Lab). Makes hookup easy.
