Levelling blocks

For us less fortunate campers that does not have the level up system, What are the best products to use under the wheels to level the rig?

Just make sure whatever you use, wood or plastic, that they are wide enough to fully support the width of the tires.

Always put the blocks under the low side

We use 2X10s or 2X12s and also have several 1 bys the same length to help raise it just a little more to level. You can carry single boards that will fit under each lower side tire or you can carry a single long board that both tires can fit on the board to level it out. Just be sure you have several inches of board both infront of the and behind the wheels. I'll probably catch some flack for this but you actually only have to level you unit with one axle but it's better to level with both axles.

I carry almost square pieces of 3/4" plywood & use them for either tires on pavement or for jack/landing gear pads on gravel or sand. For gravel or sand, I carry an entrenching tool to level out a spot for the tires. Also have a set of plastic stacker pads to use if needed. Don't usually need to level much if at all for pavement though.

We carried several long 2X10s and a couple of smaller 1bys. Boy am I glad we saved up and got level-up added.

I carry two 2x10s long enough to extend from a little in front of the front wheel to a little behind the rear wheel on one side of the trailer, about 6' I think. I cut 45 degree angles on the ends. Depending on leveling needs, I may have one wheel on one board (the other wheel on the ground), both wheels on that one board, one wheel on one board and the other wheel on both boards (boards offset), or both wheels on both boards.
Rarely have needed both boards under both wheels. Usually one board under one or both wheels.

I have been using the lego blocks, even if we use them for a month or two they may get a little deformed they seem to go back into shape. I got 2 sets so I can stack as many as I need and usually can get it rigged so both wheels are on blocks......

When I have needed them, the yellow bag of blocks. Five years none broken, deformed or lost!

I have been using the Lynx Levelers for the last 3 campers and have never had any issues. Like steelpony555 I also carry 2 sets of them. Got mine at Wally World but the ones at Amazon are less expensive. Tim

I use the yellow square ones from CW. Ramble, I think it says on the bag. They come in a package of 10, about 1" thick. I've had them for years and they have held up well.

I use the 'ramp' type plastic sold at Campgingworld - called slant levelers. We do a LOT of moving and they are very quick to level with. If we stayed in one place, I would get the 2x10s I suppose. That will come in a few years after I've been everywhere.

Have auto levelers now but have used a combination of 2x10's and Lynx leveling blocks in the past. Still carry the Lynx blocks with me just in case.

Like several others, I bought 2 sets of Lynx levelers in 1995 for our pop up. They are lightweight and compact and don't take up much space in the basement. Nearly 20 years later I am only down 1 block which cracked a year or 2 ago. I also use them when I change tires on the Montatna, as well as when I have to change the blades on my riding mower. Very versatile tool and the best $58 bucks (for 2 sets) I've spent on my camper.

My problem with 2X10's or 2X12's is that they crack in half. Talked to the lumber yard guys and they recommended some structural beam material like plywood but 2 inches thick. Holds up well and since the sizes I need are considered scraps, I get them cheap. I also have a set of both the orange and yellow plastic blocks. The surface I'm parking on determines what blocks I use and where. Plastic blocks aren't good on soft or sandy ground.

I purchased the set of 10 yellow leveling blocks from Camping world a few weeks ago. I tried them for the first time a couple of days ago on the asphalt parking area at my storage unit. As I started to back the 5th wheel up onto the blocks the the front of the block cracked and broke into pieces as the tire started to roll up on it. I picked up the pieces and returned them to C/W without a problem. I am now researching and looking into either the Hoss Pads or the RV utility Blocks.I like the RV utility blocks because they were make to be driven or backed up onto and have some unique designed features for that purpose. The Hoss Pads seem to be designed for use under the leveling jacks and stabilizer feet.

Hmmmmm How cold was it when you broke the lego block???? Either that or may just been a defective one cause we have used them for a lot of years and haven't broke one yet....we have had 1 or 2 deform after being on soft ground and with the trailer setting on them for a month of so, but even those seem to go back into shape after a little while.

I live in Florida so I'd say it was a bone chilling 75 degs.... I think the block slid a little on the asphalt before the tire rolled up onto it because the front edge of the block broke off into pieces.

Maybe this is "true confessions," but I am still carrying the same 2 X 8 boards, [or are they 2 X 6? -- certainly not 2 X 10] which I cut into several different lengths and painted, with which I began over 15 years ago. I use them under the landing legs when necessary, and also in the same way for the rear stabilizers. When I need them for leveling side to side, I pull up or back up (depending on the campsite) onto the proper length boards on the low side. OK, I will admit, I have even used boards stacked 2 high when the campsite demanded it. I also have the bag of yellow blocks and did use them recently when the site left the rear stabilizers rather high off the surface.
