What no Montana's on Maui!
Been on Maui for a couple of days and have not run across a Montana or come to think about no R/V of any kind.. Must be the swim to get here.. But I will keep looking for the next 8 days just in case they show up. I need to sign up a couple new members before we leave..

Have a great time. If I was there I wouldn't have time to spend looking for Monty's

I've seen a couple small Campers on Oahu but nothing on Maui. We are heading to Maui in 3 weeks. Can't wait, long long hot showers in a real shower for a whole week! woo hoo.

We've seen a couple of motor homes in Florida recently with Hawaii license plates. Found out that the rigs were registered in states that only require rear plates. The Hawaii plates were no different than those that people put on the front of their vehicles with their favorite sports team. Wonder if Hawaii has a profit center selling plates as souvenirs.

Imagine the shipping cost for a Montana to HI. Truck to the west coast then as freight to HI.

Well all I can tell you is everything cost double over here. But being that we are in a condo at least we can save on the cost of eating out. Weather is nice, water is warm so I can not complain.

A number of years ago, after Kauai had a bad hurricane go through and wiped out much of the electric lines on the island, the utility I worked for sent crews, along with their line trucks and smaller rigs, to assist in the restoration. The equipment was sent over on military cargo planes. The military could make some money shipping Montana's over there when they have spare time

I imagine a person could put one on a barge to get it here but after you got it here there would be no place to camp. Everything I have seen has been a wayside park along the road with just enough room to park your car and sit by the beach. I was saying to the wife this would be the best place around to be homeless with the weather and all left over food that gets tossed out after a weeks stay. You could pitch your tent a mile off the road and no one would ever find you. Shoot you could probably get a ride over here on a tuna boat headed this way...

That is exactly the case.

Thought of this thread today. Got back from Maui earlier this evening. While killing time before out flight out we took a drive up around Wailuku (the town by the Iao Valley, actually east a couple miles). What did I see? My first 5th wheel on Maui or any of the Hawaiian islands. It wasn't a Montana but a Sierra about 32ft long and fairly new. I should have snapped a quick pick but I had a couple cars behind me. Anyway if there's one 5th wheel there may be more and maybe even a Montana.

When I lived on Oahu and had the band there, we had a drummer who would come to Oahu for a couple months and play and sing and save every penny he got a hold of, then would return to Maui and live in his tent for 3 or 4 months till he ran out of money, and come back. He was a very educated Bridge Design Engineer and said when he got ready to settle down, he would return to the mainland and go to work. Always thought, what a life, but was never lucky enough to try it. Happy Trails, Steve

Maybe that guy is trying to start a trend... It seemed like there was a lot of people homesteading beachfront parking spots every night...
