Brake controller setting

For those of you that may be driving a Ram 3500 (around a 2011) Dually with built in brake controller. What do you have the gain set on? I guess I do not fully understand the controllers. I can manually push the controller and feel the brakes on 5er activate. I have it set on 5 now and it does not seem to help in braking. Help!

On the first 6000 miles mine was set at 5, I had the axle assembly therefore brakes and drums replaced under warranty, I now have mine set at 7 to do what 5 seemed to do previously. (2012 Dodge)
When pulling the RV you can apply the brakes manually, the max is 10 and if you are approaching that full on setting before you see much brake action, then perhaps your brakes need to be looked at or adjusted a bit.

The topic has come up before and I think most were using a setting of around 7 - 8. Which might vary with various TV's, as well as the trailer brake condition. Make sure the brakes are OK and set it where it works best.

I have mine set on heavy electric at 6.5. They can be a bit slow to release during slow manuevering into a site, but does very well at stopping the rig at speed.

Bob has ours on 5.5. Also using the Jake break makes a difference.
