Our camping just came to a screeching halt!

Last Thursday my husband found out he is without a job, after working for his company for 10 years. I am so very angry with how they handled it but I guess what goes around comes aroung doesn't it? He is their top producer as far as sales go but his boss' (owners of the company) put him on one account which really limited his ability to call on other accounts actively and they knew it. So, 2 years ago they started the spiral.

No job mean no extra money for camping or the other things we used to like to do. No severence really puts a damper on things.

We have one more trip planned this coming weekend. We are going to his parents house for his class reunion so that should be fun. Unless he gets a job soon we will be putting the camper in storage until next spring. I'm so bummed, we have used it ever weekend except one since the 30th of April.

I will stay around and live thru the rest of you.

Melissa, I am so sorry about your dilemma and pray that things will get better for you and your huband.I kind of know how you feel Walt has had one surgery and another one coming up soon and if he can not return to work within 6 months he will have no job.

You guys hang in there and I will be praying for a new job for Mike.

Sorry to hear you have to give up your "camping" for a brief time. Sounds like things were not going well for awhile. Being without a job is not fun. I know. The fine State of FL just put my contract on the chopping block so I'm in the same boat of going through the dreaded search and interview process of finding another job.

I am just going to welcome the change and look forward to a new adventure. But I know what you mean about cutting back on the spending.

I hope he finds even better than the old job soon. Keep us posted. Have fun at the renuion. Maybe he'll get some leads.

Well that just plain stinks!!!

What goes around comes around. The same type of thing happened to my wife years ago. Within 1 wk she had a temporary job and she did not work that full time because she found another permanent one.

Good Luck with the search! When life hands You lemons put the juice in a water pistol and squirt it in the eyes of the ex-boss!

Melissa, I know it is hard to face all this right now, but rest assured there is usally a reason for a sudden change in our lives like this. Perhaps Mike's ex employer was not appreciating the effort Mike was putting forward to produce. Sales is a sporatic field and often an employer becomes jealous of the "really good" sales people. I know...our son is in sales and has had this happen to him. With Mike's past performance I am sure it will only be a short time before a new company grabs him up and sees the real potential he has. Keep the faith. Soon you will be looking back at this as just another turn in the road of life. Keep us posted!!

Melissa,

I hope this does not sound trite, but it has proven true in our lives:

When one door closes, another opens.

The old employer is a creep too!

Good luck and we'll all keep you in our thoughts, and I'll bet all that positive thinking will have Mike with a new job real quick like!

Thank you and I hope Walt's next surgery goes well and he's not put in this situation. It's not fun by any means. Good luck to you too.

Thank you for your kind words. And good luck to you with state, sounds like you could be in the same situation. Thank goodness we still have my income so we won't have to put anything up for sale but we will be watching pennies so no more RVing. I too hope he finds a new job soon because it's only been 1 real day and he's driving me crazy! I swear he is calling every 10 minutes!

Thank you and I truly believe what goes around comes around and I can't wait until they get his. He has an interview with one of the lines they service so if he got it, his old company would be working for him. How sweet that would be! Thank you for your kind words and I love the saying about the lemons and squirting your boxx in the eye... too cool!

Thank you Joyce. I know they were appriciating his efforts and working from 6am - 6pm didn't do a bit of good. Or selling millions of dollars in product didn't seem to matter. Oh well, I guess he will find something much better with people that I hope appreciate his dedication and skill and reward him accordingly. Thanks again for your kind words.

Thanks Carol, it's appreciated. I feel better today than I did on Friday because he is making contact with people but until he starts to have interviews and such it will be hard. And you are right, when one door closes another opens but it's so much nicer when you are the one closing the door. Thanks again.

Sorry to hear the bad news. While it does not help now, many times change is good and Mike may very well be better off for it.
Good luck and will keep you in our thoughts.

That really does stink even more when the employer doesn't have the guts to let him know in advance that this might happen. As others said, things often have a way of getting better. And even though you may have to put a hiatus on the camping trips, at least you don't have to sell your Montana. It will be there when you're ready to use it again. Good luck Mel and Mike. Please keep us posted.

Melissa - We have been on the road for the last several days and just now returned to the computer access world! What a blow to read about Mike's job displacement.

First of all our prayers go out to you. We can relate to the emotions you are feeling since both my husband and myself have experienced job displacement. At the time, it is like hitting a brick wall and perfectly normal to have feelings of anger and resentment with the thoughts of why me and how are we going to survive.

But we want you to know that once you work through these issues you will find that maybe things happen for a reason and we are confident that things will be better for you. As a family you will find that you have an inner strength you never realized you had.

Maybe this is the time that Mike will find a new calling and make a career change. I know for myself after a lot of analyzing what my career goals and ambitions where I made a change from Human Resource Management to Sales/Marketing. And loved most every minute learning a new field. You are very fortunate that you still have one income coming into the household that will help keep you afloat. So many people do not have that option.

Please keep us posted and maybe we can help with some good old fashioned job networking!

I'm so sorry you have to go through this. When my husband lost his job I heard it on the radio before they were even told the company was closing. He called me to find out if I knew anything. It's bad enough to lose your job but to find out that way was so upsetting. After the initial shock, anger, and all the other emotions everything eventually turned out for the best and I'm sure it will for you too. Hang in there!
