3400RL
Thinking about purchacing a '09 3400RL. Will be selling our '03 3670RL. Is the 3400 as good as a 3670 ? we have really had good service with the old one. We have been full timing for 2 years now. We don't travel much as we both still have full time jobs, but still love living in the Monty. About 4 more years before we can go on the road. GBSB

GBSB,
Wow does your story hit home with us. We moved into our 3400 last March and are still working our fulltime jobs as well.
We love our new home. I really can't say if the 3400 is better then another Montana model but we are very pleased with ours and have only had some minor problems that have been easily fixed.
We'll see how the winter goes but we are making the necessary preperations so shouldn't be too bad.
We are loooking at retirement in 5 years and then we can start enjoying more time on the road. My website is listed in my sig if you want to check in on us.

I have been fultiming in our 3400 and we absolutely love it! I think all Montanas are the same maintenance wise, the only difference is whether you like the floor plan or not. This is a personal issue......I don't know what your length is but that may be an issue. Our 3400 is between 37'3" and 39', depending on who you ask......

I believe the length on the 3400 is the same as the 3670. Although as Phil says, these models change lengths month to month for some reason. Tape measure is more reliable than the brochure/website. Inside, the 3670 has more space because of the extra counter space of the 3400, which the wife loves. I think the kitchen is the only difference in the floor plan.

We LOVE our 3400RL lots of space and the island is excellent. We have had ours for a year now and have had the normal problems. This is our 6th camper, our last being a Larado 5ver. 1 AC unit will struggle when you get into the 90's buts that's an easy fix at CW.

Agree...a Montana is a Montana is a Montana...floor plans are the difference. We got the 3400 because, for us, it was the best floor plan, and in the years since, have yet to find one of any brand we like better.

Well we bought the 3400RL. We looked at several other brands and as has been said before Montana seems to have more bang for the buck. We have had such good service from our 3670. It amased us the new items that are on new campers as compared to our 2003 model. After we clean the 3670 up I guess we will have one for sale. Thanks for all the input and info on the 3400. George

George, make sure you use the For Sale topic category here on the MOC. And congrats on your new 3400. You're going to love it.

For years we were in love with the 3400RL and planned to buy it someday. Still love it. However, we saw a 3455SA and fell in love with it too. DECISIONS, DECISIONS! We ended up with the 3455SA but would have been happy with the 3400RL too.

The 3670 is an excellent floorplan in my opinion. But, never having spent more than a few hours in once, I sure can't compare the 3670 and 3400 for any longer periods than that. I will say we really, really like our 3400. Are there things we'd like done differently? Sure. But the model doesn't exist where our answer to that question would differ. We find the 3400RL a very comfortable and livable floorplan to us, and that's what matters most to us.

I think the only concern from someone with a 3400RL was the door was too close to the awning edge so that if it rained and there was wind, the door and steps were prone to getting wet. Then you'd have to be concerned about trapsing water into the rig. I don't recall the year, but if you look at Steve Reigle's rig picture above you can see how the leftmost awning arm is right next to the entry door.
That said, it seems like the 3400RL of various years is a VERY popular Montana from the signatures of MOCers. If one is concerned about the rain, used an absorbent floor mat at the door and entry steps, or search the Forum for solutions (someone actually created a mini-canopy that fit between the main awning and the slideout). Then enjoy!

Thanks agan for the coments on the 3400RL. WE brought it home last night, now comes the chore of moving from one to the other. We are excited about the new home. The 3670 has been a good coach with little trouble and will make some one a good camper, it is still in great condition. Will be listing it for sale shortly. The dealer we bought our new one from said we could put it on his lot as he sells used Montanas. George

We were going to order a 06 3670 as we thought the open floor plan was the best of all the Montana floorplans. However they stopped making the 3670 so we went to the 3400 which is pretty much the same except for the open floor plan. If I had a 3670 and it was in good shape I would have a hard time letting it go. Still think it was he best floor plan.

We own a 2008 3400RL that has caused a number of problems.
1. All ceiling beams have dark lines from ? (candles, diesel exhaust-Keystone says, condensation, ?)
2. All vertical beams in walls are discolored, also accross the slideouts.
3. Toilot stopped working - $238 in Tillamook, OR. Dometic would only send a part they thought was the problem. Forget the warranttee when you are on the road.
4. Mission tires - check other Montana owners. They are only 5 ply treads. Now we have 14.
5. Paneling in kitchen slideout is coming loose (buckling also).
6. Montana decal on front of trailer coming off.
7. TV and DVD failed in less than a month.
There are more but these are the worst.
I wouldn't buy one again. We love the layout and you have lots of storage, but...............
You have yours so I would make sure you use it a lot while your warrantee is in play. Keystone will do nothing after its over.

If you buy any RV an extended warranty is a must. Things will go wrong. Some have many more problems than others. We have had some problems, but not nearly as much as some.
Bob, you have surely had your share of difficulties with your Montana. However, I would caution you to believe that this is solely a Keystone/Montana situation. Every RV mfr has their quality control issues. I read a while back that some MOCer was driving down the road following a Prevost motor coach - 1-2 million $$$ - and the disgruntled owner had spray painted "LEMON!" across the back of it...

I've heard, from very good sources, including my own, that, IF you are a MOC Member AND IF you attend the Fall Rally in Goshen, That Keystone will bend over backwards to make you happy, regardless of warranty status. I know, I know, who wants to drive all the way to Goshen to get service????
The best advice is given above and that is to "USE YOUR MONTANA AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD TO GET ALL THE BUGS OUT" As a previous RV owner you know there will be bugs. Getting them worked out during warranty is paramount......
Out of the above list, I have only suffered the Mission tire problem, however, I have had other problems also and Keystone fixed everyone of them, both in and out of warranty. Mostly on the road by Keystone dealers, not my own, which is in Alaska.
