Moving in

Today we start moving into our RV. I have been cleaning out our collection of "stuff" and find that it was a little harder than I thought it would be. We are gradually moving things from the house that we know we need to take. We will be leaving AZ in May and heading for Washington. Has anyone else had problems leaving things? I know that it is just "stuff" but it still has emotional meaning.

You will probably go thru many Emotional Disturbances before you liquidate everything. I think it is called a right of passage. It took us 4 days of weekend garage sales to do the deed and then we sent two pallets of "Stuff" to our two boys and several trips around town giving things away, ceramic molds, king size bed and a few others. Very little was thrown out as we were one of the first garage sales of the year in Alaska. Don't EVEN try to recoup costs, just let it go and say goodbye. It is tough and many people would never think about doing it. I liken it to the phrase "The truth will set you free" only in our case "Liquidation will set you free"! Enjoy the new life!!!!

We are fulltimers, and totally agree with exav8tr.

Make yourself a pact, that if there is anything you need later, you'll just go buy it...and buy the model you want.

After moving and storing, we later tried to remember what we stored, and couldn't remember hardly anything. Getting rid of that stuff at that point was easier. Living in these boxes limits what you can carry, but the rewards are worth the inconvenience.

We even got rid of our storage unit, took some time, but you'll figure out that you just don't need/use that 'stuff' enough to warrant carrying it.

Pick the thing you want most. Sell it. After that it is easy.

I won't say it isn't hard. If you have something you can't part with, put it in storage, but later you will wish you had made a clean break. We stored a few things. They are still there. We wish we hadn't. Our estate sale was the perfect venue to get rid of the stuff. Now taking the time to sell the stuff is difficult. We miss absolutely nothing we let go after 4 years of being without it.

We agree. It is very hard to let go but like all the others, outside of my little car there is nothing that I miss. I really don't like driving the big truck to go to the grocery store.

I think a lot of it depends on your own life, whether you have children to pass things to and what you plan to do 10-15 yrs from now. We have a storage unit for antiques, family heirlooms that I want with me in 10 yrs, our art work, etc. We got rid of furniture except the antiques and most of the household stuff. We figure when we stop fulltiming we will have dishes etc to use that are now in the Monty.

Well, I made it through the day and it was not as bad as I thought it would be. I found that I can make the rv look like home with family pictures and everything is going to fit! The hardest part was to go through years of family pictures and decide which child would like what!
We are going to be very comfortable, as long as we can train our dog to not bark at everyone!
That will be the real issue, as she is part jack russell terrier! Lots of energy. Thank you to all that posted, I enjoyed your responses and it helped a lot!

You might want to scan your pictures. We are still in the process of scanning them all and cataloging them on the computer and backing the computer up....the hard part is then what do you do with them then??

As far as your dog barking at everyone..
My sister's dog would bark at everyone, every dog, anything that he saw that moved..
She put a collar on him that sprayed citronella every time he would bark.. It worked great.. I did not think it was even the same dog..
Now she will turn it on with the dog watching and blow into it to make it spray and then turn it off.. The dog will bark real low just enought not to set the spray off..
