water tank

a camping friend of mine suddenly had the water tank literally fall out of his 2005 keystone everest while filling it (pre trip) in his driveway. after making his own repairs he visited a local rv repair to ask if there was a suitable repair material for the underbelly membrane that covers the bottom of the trailer. after explaining how it was damaged, the notable comment from the rv repairman..."you must have a keystone product." has anyone experienced this issue with a newer montana? i have a 2007 2955rl.

Jim,

Welcome to the MOC. We're sorry to hear about your friends problem. Waynem is correct.... technically. Your friend may want to check in on the more generic Keystone Forum..... However you state you have a Montana and now have a question about the tanks. That is a valid issue.

I know of only one Montana owner who reported a similar problem. They were not so lucky as to be in their driveway. They were in the hinterlands of Alaska. To Montana's credit they rushed a replacement tank to them and covered all costs. Costs other than the slightly extended stay they had while they waited for the replacement part.

Good luck to your friend and please don't hesitate to share whatever Montana and general RVing issues that may come up.

RVWheels, MOC Admin.

I agree. The Alaska incident by one of our members about a year and a half ago is the only instance of tanks dropping out while on the road. With all the many experiences over the years with all these MOCers, I have never heard of another such occurrence...

Sounds like "sour grapes" to me. That so called "local rv repair" apparently doesn't work on Keystone products. Maybe Keystone won't authorize him. Tell your friend to take whatever he has to say with a grain of salt.

On the Everest website there are quite a few post about this problem, it seems there is a lack of braces under the tank. I found it quite interesting as we did not seem to have the same problems with the Montana, but maybe they are just now appearing.bob

Maybe not on the fresh water tanks, but, we have had a number of reports of trouble with galley, gray and worse yet, black water tanks.

The vendor of the black and gray tanks has stated that they are supposed to be installed with 2 straps, per, and as of last fall (Rally tour of plant), they were not done so.

Reports of black tank trouble is not recent, FlaNative had trouble several years ago and reported her fix was to put some braces under that tank, I believe she use something like 2 X 4's.

Concerns over this issue, no matter which tank it is, is why we seldom run with more than 6 to 10 gallons fresh and as little grey/galley/black as possible. We also try very hard to not let those tanks fill more than 2/3rd, if it is preventable.

We may be paranoid bout it, but we are also lazy and don't want to have to deal with consequences.

Definitely no support under our tanks in the Mountaineer. I had the belly membrane down the other day...all the support they have is a molded lip at the top sitting on iron. I have been contemplating just what I can do to support the tanks. Already been down the black tank road. Don't want to deal with that again.

There are NO supports under any of the tanks in the MOnty's. I have had the entire underbelly down, putting in heavier insulation and have used plumbers strapping to at least provide the semblence of support under there. (A sling effect). I think this will keep the tanks from falling out. The only thing holding the tanks in is the flange that runs around the edge of said tanks.. Pretty damn poor planning on Keystone's part.
