What tires on Chevy 2500?

I was curious what weight rating/sizes of tires owners of Chevy 2500 D/As have? I'm not talking about E range, I'm asking for actual weight ratings. ie 3000lbs or 3400lbs max load rating. My 2006 came with 245s with 3000lb weight ratings per tire and I'm considering upgrading them to 265s with 3400 lb ratings per tire. I know I would have to have the speedo recalculated.

Wallnut, I am running the 265's and it did not affect the performance of the truck. I am very pleased with them. When I pass through one of those road side radar's signs it show my speed to be right on the money. I have found that most factory set speed is a little fast anyway. They don't want anyone coming back to them so they error a little on the safety side. The charts say it will only change by 2.5.

I have the original OEM size and ply rating. I did replace the original tires with the Michelin but did not change the size or ply rating. I see absolutely no reason to upgrade to a different size. If you do upgrade to the 265s you will also have to upgrade the computer settings for the greater circumference other wise it will through the Allison shifting p[oints out of whack.
Spent way to many years in the tire business to believe, in this case, that oversizing is worth the extra cost.
Also if you do upgrade to the 265 you darn well better do all 5 tires. If you ever need to put the spare down on a 4X4 it is imparative that all tires on the ground are the same size. Not so much in width but the diameter is very important.

My son and I both drive 2500HD D/A trucks. We both went to Michelin tires when the OEM's wore down. I went with the 245's, he went with 265's. He has had no issues what so ever with the truck. I was just a little leary of the change in size, but I will probably go with the 265's when I buy new tires. BTW, the speedometer is very close on his truck; not off enough to worry with.

I changed my tires to 265's Michelin LTX M&S. Couldn't change the computer on my truck so I am running about 3 MPH faster than it shows.
I just checked and I have 60,000 miles on one set and 50,000 miles on the other set. I pull our Big Sky around 6,000 miles per yr. & rotate every 5,000.

I run the 245's load range E that have a 3,042 lb weight rating per tire. I am going to replace my 2nd set of tires by October and will stay with the OEM 245 size tire. With a tad over 80,000 miles on the current Duramax and more than 25,000 on my previous Duramax, I have found no reason to change...but that is my own opinion.

Slickwillie,
The LTZs come with 17s mine did not, there was a credit on the sticker for the 16s so they put on 265s they look better. With all that HP you can light them up if you want too. This D/A is stronger than my old 8.1/A and a lot better on fuel.

For dscott: how is your new Chev responding towing your 3400? We have a 2007 2500HD LTZ D/A and are looking to purchase a 3400. What kind of hitch did you install?

I don't recall what they're called or the weight rating but I read in Trailer Life a while back about a new tire Goodyear had developed that was designed for high torque applications like diesel pickups pulling heavy trailers. Might be worth looking into.

I am running the Good Year Wrangler RT/S LT 265/75 R16s 120/123R
Rated at 3415 per tire. That was what was on the truck when I brought it. I would have to say the spedo was reset as roadside radars and my gps speed print out match the spedo up dead on between 0 and 75 MPH.

I have been running all tires at 70 psi but am going to check the weight charts and reset my front tires based on the weight at the scales....
