shower sky light shade
We are looking to install some type of shade for the skylight above the shower to keep the heat from the sun out. Just wondering if anyone have been down that road, and what other owners have experienced. Any advise is appreciated
Thanks, Dennis Batdorff, 2015 Montana 3582

Wife made a sunscreen out of the same fabric used for awning sunscreens and put snaps on the corners to match the screws. Took the screws out and installed screw snaps and this lets a small amt. of light in and lets the skylight breath.

We installed a piece of an old beige bedsheet between the inner and outer bubbles on ours, and find that it lets in filtered light but not the heat.

We have the same model as you do but ours is a 2013. I took the inside dome out and went to an auto parts store and purchase a spray paint that they spray the taillight lenses of the classics to darken them. It was really easy and it cuts the light and also the heat coming in through the skylight. Others have used the bubble wrap material for packing and put that between the two lenses and still others have put the foil wrapped bubble wrap(like in the sunscreens for car windshields) and put that between the two lenses. There are three more suggestions you might consider. Let us know what you decide on by reposting on this thread.

In my last Montana, I had something like the "Carefree Skylight Shade" at www.e-carefree.com. They extend to 23" by 30". I haven't measured my new Mountaineer, but am thinking about getting one for it now, too. Works nice, as you can have light when you want, but for Alaska or during hot days, you can pull the shade and cover the skylight.

We took some Krylon, white paint and sprayed the outside of the skylight. It knocks the light out plus it saves the plastic dome from deteriorating to the point it will fall apart when hit with a hard rain.

I posted this a few times before, but unless you're also wanting to cut down on the light from the skylight as well ... just take the inner lens down and place a couple of layers of 1" bubble wrap in-between the inner and outer lens ... it makes a world of difference as to reducing the amount of heat let in via the skylight.

I used smoked color plexiglass. Cut it to size and lined the edges with Velcro. Also, predrilled holes where the screws are and screwed it up. This filers the light but lets some in.
