Wheel marking and max pressure

I've read so many posts about tires and wheels that my head hurts. I apologize in advance if I missed this. Thanks for any insights/wisdom's that are passed my way.

I have a 2008 3600RE with 8 lug aluminum wheels. On the inside of one spoke it lists 3042 max load but does not give an air pressure. However there is a sticker on the wheel which lists 3750 max load at 110 PSI. Should I believe the sticker or the spoke?

Also I am wanting to go the LT tire route as one of the Marabombs has become a rather irregular shape and has bowed out looking more like a motorcycle tire rather than a nice flat-across-the-face tire as the other three. My problem is there is some kind of bolt hanging down from the slide that is kind of close to the tire. I am worried that the larger 235/85-16 will not clear this bolt. Do I make any sense regarding this bolt?

As much as I promote the use of LT tires instead of ST tires that come on our fivers ... I think your fiver will be pushing hard against if not over the rating of an LT tire. You may have to go the G614 route. The LT tires are a bit better than an inch taller than the ST originals. The bolt is the pusher that helps adjust the slide up and down dimension. I have removed the bolt and cut it shorter to aid in clearance. As long as you don't loosen the other carriage bolts on the slide arm ... nothing will move. If you weigh your fiver ... it will start you out in the right chain of thought. Remember ... take the hitch weight off the total to give you an idea of what's sitting on your axles ... or just go to a scale that weighs everything individually.

Going with the G614 tires is the reason I was asking about that sticker. It's my understanding the G614's require 110 PSI. The thing is I use this for my work home so it doesn't travel much. I just spent nine months in Midland and am now heading to the Houston area for an extended stay. The previous owner has two Marabombs and two towmaster (mixed on each axle--one TM and one Marathon per axle--kind of weird??)

I'm going to take the rounded tire to Goodyear tomorrow and see if they will replace it.

Thanks for the advice on the bolt. I feel it will need modification before the larger tire will clear to my liking.

Don't believe you would ever want to put 110PSI in a Marathon tire. 80PSI. Have never had an issue with the bolt clearance described running LT tires. Any choice you make, ie LT or G614s will be a great improvement for you.

Thanks for the response.

I would never run 110 PSI on the Marathons or any 10 ply tire. I was only considering the wheel's pressure/load capacity should I go the 14 ply; a la G614, route.

I should have taken a picture of that bolt before I took the wheel/tire off. On mine it's pretty close to the outer edge of the tire. But like dieselguy said, I can make it shorter with no adverse consequences.

Joe, I would call Tredit tire and ask them. They provided the wheels and tires to Keystone.

http://www.tredittire.com/contact-us

I thought??? 2010 was the first year for real 110psi wheels. Cast into the spokes.

For a brief time, and you seem to have a set of them, someone "re-certified" rims to 110#. If I'm remembering correctly that was quickly rescinded. To run 614's you will need new wheels. As far as your Marathons are concerned you certainly got your money's worth. Even 614's shouldn't be run more than 7 years regardless of what the tread looks like.

Jim, Thanks for the link. I will see what they have to offer as of now.

My money's worth indeed! I just got back from the GY dealer. These are in fact the original tires since they're 7 years old!! My problem is time. I need this trailer in the Houston area by the 26th of this month. Looks like I am stuck with the Marabombs or even the TowMaster depending upon what I can get.

EDIT: Looks like Tredit has something in Arlington, TX so I may be in luck after all.

EDIT2: Talked to Sheila at the Arlington Tredit location. TO2 wheels at $100/each. Wheels w/Sailun tires at $268.08/each or Wheels w/G614 tires at $493.86/each...decisions decisions!

Sailun tires have been getting good press on the forum lately and I have yet to see a negative post.

Since my wheels can't handle the 110PSI I'm stuck replacing my Marathons and crossing my fingers or biting the bullet and getting new wheels. If the latter, I will have to get the Sailuns. The gal at Tredit priced me those as well as the G614s. She did not try to emphasize one over the other than to say the Sailun's ratings are equal to the GY's. That's a $grand$ difference in price since I have to buy all four.

I just checked the Keystone site, and I hope your wheels are not rated 3042 lbs only, because the specs on your trailer show you to have, at full rated load, 3,375 lbs on each wheel. I'm thinking you meant to say the wheels are rated 3420 lbs.

nope it says 3042

While taking the above pic I noticed this

I dodged the bullet on that tire. I went out to the storage place to check the production dates on the other tires. It appears the previous owner replaced three tires in 2012 and left this one 2008 made tire on. Anyway, it will have four new 110PSI rated wheels and four new Sailun tires before I head out to Houston.
I just need to decide on the following wheels:
A1411 (black) http://www.tredittire.com/wheels/a1411
T09 (black) http://www.tredittire.com/wheels/t09
J55 (black) http://www.tredittire.com/wheels/j55
T02 (silver) http://www.tredittire.com/wheels/t02
Those are the ones they have in stock.

if your wheel says 3750 just get the G614...don't mess around with all the other tires.

Joe, Have you actually weighed your trailer and know what weight is actually on the axles.

It is very possible you can get by with a quality LT tire. Use the rims you have.

My '14 has the 110psi rims, came with Marathons, I replaced them with quality LT's and 2 years later, all is good.

I would look at the Sailun tires If I had to go to the higher capacity tire and wheel.

Well after a not-so-pleasant exchange with the MGR at Tredit (he acted like I was bothering him because I wanted to give him nearly $1200 for wheels and tires). I just said the heck with it and ordered a replacement Marathon for the one wheel and plan on getting it to Houston and set it up for my new job. If I used it like a real camper and towed it on a regular basis I would never have thought about doing it this way. But the truth is, I will have it driven 250 miles and it will sit for an extended period. Plus I hope to upgrade soon to an "FL" floor plan. So why dish out the moola now as it will not be recouped when I trade this one in.

I appreciate the advice. It's all been very sound and logical (although my decision may not be to some).
