Here it is

3am & I'm sitting between some semi's trying to stay out of the wind. Crawled into bed at 10pm and now its time for coffee. My DW wanted to stay snuggled under the covers. Left the truck running to keep a charge going to the Monty batteries. Wind must be at least 35+.
The Monty was a rocking and the heater never stopped. Drove into here in a ground blizzard that started south of Butte. Mt on I 15.
Oh yes, did I mention on the truck gauge it says -6 and the snow is drifted all around us a foot or better.
The joys of heading home early, about 140 more to go.
enjoy

Wait until the wife hears you would rather post to the forum at 3a.m. than snuggle with her! Good luck getting home and stay safe. Jim

Are you daft? You should turn around and go the other way. Driving in strong wind slows me down especially in front or from the sides. That's gonna be a long 140 miles.

Not a good advertisement for early returns.

We made it but it was slow going. The truck temp display showed a -13 plus the wind chill??. It was a regular ground blizzard with strong wind and a lot of drifting as the snow plows couldn't keep up. It was about 35 to 40 MPH going and the worst part was when the semi's which seemed to want to go faster than everybody else would pass causing a virtual white out. Couldn't see the front of the truck. Every time I saw one coming up I would put the flashers on and slow down and depend on the rumble strip.
Got home and had to get some help getting the driveway opened up. Had to park in the street to get most of the stuff out of the Monty. Never saw this much snow guess we are near breaking a 1936 record and more snow coming, but it is great to be home. Will try to get a snow picture later today.
enjoy

I am glad you made it home safely! Now, will you see if you can close that gap on the south 40? We've had enough cold weather in S. Texas

Wow....you just drove through a nightmare I never want to experience pulling my Montana. I know this weather has been goofy throughout the United States, but surely by staying in Florida another 5 weeks things will clear up north.

Glad you made it back safe and sound! Question, how did the rig handle in those windy conditions? I can understand the white out conditions having all too aggressive semi truck drivers going by, but when they weren't there, did it feel fairly stable with a SRW??? I'll have the same, so just curious if you felt uncomfortable in the high winds.

The rig handled just fine, course I wasn't going that fast, didn't notice and swaying. When we were stopped for the night it felt the worse, I'm sure if we would have had the slide out extended we probably would have lost a slide topper or at least some ripping.

The snow hear at home is piled high that a lot of the streets in the residential section are one way, no place else left to stack snow other than trucking it off. Took most of about 5 hours to get our place all plowed out using a pickup snow plow and a tractor with front bucket then a lot of shoveling. Now when it snows I can use the side by side to do the plowing. Right at 24" on the level.

Wow Al, that's amazing. Glad you didn't have any damage from the wind, and I can only imagine the headache you're having with the snow at home! 5 hours to clear anything is crazy from where I sit in Washington State. Thank you for the info!
