Another question we have is once we sell our stick home how do we establish residency for taxes, voting, etc? We live in central Illinois.
Thanks in advance!

Georgia,
There are a few states that don't have state income taxes, South Dakota, Florida, and Texas that I know of. I think Nevada may be another one, but I'm not sure without checking.
A lot of RVers use South Dakota. We use Texas because we are always through there in the late Fall every year. We joined the Escapees RV Club who have a wonderful mail service. You can check them out at
www.escapees.com
We've been members for over nine years and have used the mail service all that time without a glitch. They are postal-bonded people who handle the mail. I don't know about mail services in other states---only what I've heard from members of this forum.
We vote in Texas, absentee. Has worked very well. If we're there during election day, we vote in person and never have to stand in line.
Some people don't like the fact that Texas has a vehicle-inspection requirement but it isn't a hindering thing. If you don't go back into Texas for a couple years you don't need inspection. And you have 30 days in which to get vehicles inspected once you return. Vehicle and driver's licenses can be renewed via mail (except CDLs---they must be renewed in person).
Happy trails. Whatever you choose will work for you and if it doesn't, change.
