No - your converter is fine.

I agree with Brad.

I replaced our 12 volt battery with two 6 volt golf cart batteries last year, and have had zero problems. Converter functions fine.

Maybe they were trying to say the charger that comes with the converter isn't very good. An upgrade in chargers I think would be a good idea. I have bypassed my converter and use a Zantrax inverter with a good battery charger.

I did add the Iota IQ Smart charger module to my existing converter at the same time I upgraded to the 6-volt batteries. The smart charger recognizes a 6 cell battery and charges/conditions them appropriately. I leave it plugged in all year and no boil off.

If you are referring to my comment about the Iota converter, I just intended to suggest adding the upgrade option as mentioned above by bsmeaton. It just makes your converter into a better converter that self regulates itself to prevent over-charging and boiling off water. This is not really anything to do with changing to 6 volt batteries, it is just a good idea for everybody, regardless of battery configuration.

No, you don't have to upgrade your converter. But you can, if you so desire. Some have done that with great results. Since we don't use a converter I can't tell you why they upgraded, only they can explain it.
