Someone need fan blades

Found these fan blades (wind turbine blades) at Rufus OR. Yes the trucks are that long.

Man, that would ventilate the bath wouldn't it? We used to see a lot of those going through East TX on US 79. I saw a couple on a barge on the ICW before we moved from Aransas Pass; they were huge.

Those things come thru the Soo Locks too. From Europe no less. Got a bunch of them in Duluth,MN on the docks.

The make some like that down around Wichita as I recall -- I've seen then on the I70 and I-135 heading out to western Kansas some. Long is an understatement -- and the drivers do watch the winds -- saw several of them pulled into rest stops numerous times when cross winds were present....

As an aside -- can you imagine the motor it would take to start those things spinning if they were a ceiling fan????

We have them in Tennessee, in or around Oak Ridge Tn. We just don't have enough wind in this part of the Country. They had a new topic this morning, was very interesting. We had seen literaly 100's out West. However the Cost was around $2,000,000,000 per unit I think they said. And it takes many years to pay for themselves. Sounded like the cost was extreme to me? I must say it looked impressive on that Tennessee mountain, which BTW was a recovered Coal dig. GBY.....

I see them all over Wyoming, and to me they seem to scar the landscape as bad as anything else. A nice nuclear reactor dome would look much better.

These are best served in low wind areas, as they have an operating range of between 5mph to 30mph, after that the blade pitch rotates to neutral and they shut down to avoid overspeed.

I agree they did seem to stand out more. But that can be said about the oil fields in Texas also. We all know that the environmentalist will fight the Nuclear building in this Country. When was the last time a Nuclear facility went on line. Its the not in my back yard thing. GBY...

I agree, I guess it's all good energy. I think the enviros are a little more open about the nuke thing, after watching Japan build them like modular homes. The standardization in design and consistency like what was promoted by Admiral Rickovers nuke navy is appealing when it comes to safety, and we've had the technology to recycle spent nuclear fuels for years.

I told my son those weren't actually wind machines, rather they are propellers. We are trying to get enough propellers fired up to stop the earth rotation so we can keep the sun shining on our hemisphere and power our solar collectors. I don't think he believed me.

Brad: Along the same line -- why not -- they are propellers to cool the air out west when it gets so hot. Trying to slow down environmental warming!!

hahaahha - wish they would point a few of those fans this way! We are within a day of breaking a century long record for most days over 90. (unusual for Colorado).
