Finding ULS Diesel

Since I recently traded my 05 Duramax for an 08 Ford I really didn't care which fuel I ran in my truck. Obviously that is not the case now. So in your travels has it been a problem finding ULS fuel, and are there any stations on the road I can count on finding it?

Coming from Spokane to Chicago in the last 4 days, I only ran across one station that still offered the old LSD fuel. I honestly do not feel you will have any trouble locating ULSD fuel, unless you are off the beaten path in some small town. Enjoy that new KR!

All Shell and Chevron stations have ULSD. Do a search on Google it will tell you all the companies that have it.

The Knoxville, TN Flying J does not carry ULSD and at least 50% of the other stations around here don't carry it either. A local Weigels station has started carrying it but they run out of it all the time and then I have to hunt for it. The above mentioned Flying J is one of the most used in the nation, located at exit #369 at the I-40 I-75 split and one would assume that they have it available at their standard and RV pumps but they don't. I called them one day about it and was advised that they did carry it at one of their 30 large truck pumps but upon actually checking the truck pumps I could not locate it and its a nightmare to even attempt to get into the truck section.

I have run into problems finding it, and I would call our area off the beaten path here on South Padre Island Texas. We had to drive around 25 miles toward Brownsville, or Harlengen Texas to find it.
Now that we know that, we just keep it topped off, as we go to those towns on occasion.

We also have had problems finding it.Example the nearest Pilot truck stop does NOT carry ULSD however one 50 miles down the interstate does.We have 4 speedway stations 3 do NOT carry it. I would not automatically assume that a station carries it just because a like station did up the road.Check the pump before you pump.Asking the attendant may be of little help...Example Rich at a Marathon station to attendent.."is this ULSD" Attendant...."no it is Marathon" Assume nothing///

I can use either fuel but I've not noticed any stations that didn't carry ULSD. However, we do travel main highways pretty much.

I know of only 1 station that has their pumps marked with ULSD in local area. Some might be carrying it, but pumps aren't marked.

We have 17,158 miles on this 2007 Dodge, which also requires ULSD. To date, we have pulled into only four stations just to find they do not have ULSD. That's it. It's really not been a problem. On the advice of a friend, I am carrying a five gallon diesel container full of ULSD in the crossbed toolbox, just in case. But so far it's not been a problem for us. Those 17,000 miles, though, cover only from Kansas to Maine to Virginia and all states within that triangle. We've not yet been out west with this truck.

We sometimes travel interstates but most often are on US highways and fill up in towns along the way.

Well Steve we covered the states to the west and north of Kansas and only in a few instances did we find LSD but in 2 of the cases we found USLD right next to the LSD pump.
Even though my 05 can run on either I now only use ULSD. Same price, less emissions and the performance and fuel milesage has not changed.

My F-350 (2006) owners manual says--no bio-diesel. I have found a station in Scottsbluff, Neb with "up to 25% bio-diesel" on our 15,500 mile Alaska trip this year. ULS diesel was not a problem but I stayed away from bio-diesel. Also found a station in Grants, NM with up to 5% bio-diesel--I went across the street and paid about 5cents more per gallon for USL.

If you are using B10 or B20 bio diesel for the first time don't be surprised if your fuel filter pluggs up. It will clean your tank and lines and can easily plug the filter.

The manual on my Dodge says it can handle biodiesel but I can't remember the percentage allowed without digging out the manual. I've since read that Dodge now says the engine can handle more. 15% I think. But I'd have to verify that before I'd use that high a concentration.
