Duties of WagonMasters

I've started an RV club at work so we can have a plan to use our investments (which sit too much when you gotta work 40+ a week), and would like to use the wagonmaster concept for our monthly outings. What are the duties of a wagonmaster?

The job is what you make it. Generally the Wagon Master plans the trip, makes the reservations, gets everbody parked and in some cases, organizes the entertainment. Like the wagon train days, the wagon master is responsible for the health and saftey of the company. There are however, many variations of the duties

Just like any other leader you take on the position of Wagon Master and than assign committees to do the actual work....NOT!
Although you do set up committees for things such as pot lucks, photographer, bonfires and any other activity that may fit in with your group. Generally the Wagon Masters first concern is is there an interest in a rally and If so how many will attend? Secondly is where and when. Finding a campground that can handle the number of rigs you plan on having attend. Do they have space available for the dates you have selected? Does the CG have a meeting room?
Just how structered a rally do you want. By that I mean do you want a ton of activities that the attendees have very little free time or something a bit less structured so the attendees may do their own thing such as shopping, sight seeing or just plain relaxing.

And the list will go on.

I am sure you will get many more responses so I back away.

Craig, we spent a weekend with a very successful camping club. While they had one or two couples responsible for the overall management of the club, each couple signed up for a weekend. Then they would find the campground, arrange special activites and potlucks. This club went to Pigeon Forge and had a couple of shows on the agenda. They got discount group pricing. They also found a couple of places for the group to go out to eat. On other weekends, the group would be in a more rural setting so they planned campfires and games and potlucks appropriate for the campground they chose.

In order to be a successful wagonmaster you have to be a good communicator and a good delegater. In your case, I think a Wagonmaster would be responsible for collecting dues, giving out schedules, and making sure the weekend is well planned and running smoothly. Have fun!
