Generators and Surge Protectors

Just pulled the trigger on a Westinghouse iGen 2500 Inverter Generator from Sam's Club one day sale today. Couldn't pass on the price @ $399.00 ($200 off) plus free shipping. I'm also looking at Micro-Airs' EasyStart 364. Looking for best price.

For folks using a generator, do you use a surge protector and if so, how do you solve the floating ground issue ?

My other line of thinking is this...you use a surge protector because you are using an unknown quality power source. If you are using your own inverter generator, you have a know quality power source. Do you need the surge protector in this instance ?

Did you think about getting 2 and run in parallel ? If Compatible. I don’t run mine when hooked up to my inverters clean power, never had an issue.

It does have parallel capability. I don't boondock. This is just backup to keep the residential fridge from draining the batteries and run one a/c (with EasyStart installed) in case something happens to shore power. If shore power was not fixed within 24 hours, I would find another RV park.

Well you are assuming that nothing will ever go wrong with your generator. If it does what will warn you?

Here is how you fix the floating ground issue.
