Cathy and I went Geocaching today and one of the caches had this memorial:
A 10-year old boy and a dog walk along a quiet trail on a warm summer day in 2004. A few short hours later, his body is found floating in the reservoir (Hobbs Creek Reservoir, Layton, UT) his shoes and socks neatly on the bank. A tragic accident? Not according to his mother. Claims of cougar sightings in the area led her to believe he ran into the water to escape a hungry predator. The mother remained firmly convinced that her son would not have willingly entered the forbidden pond, despite the lack of any evidence that cougars were in the area and despite the fact her son had stopped to take off his shoes before going into the water.
Perhaps, as you walk along the trail searching for this cache, you may finally find the evidence that will confirm the mother's story. Let's just hope that the cougar isn't hungry!
There were warnings of cougar sightings in the area and to be watchful, especially at dawn and dusk. By the way, we did find the cache.
