Hot Ground Reverse

Our Montana was moved home from Yuma by a Commercial company due to health problem. Working fine when hooked up but when I hook up to electrical at home I get Hot Ground message when I test plugs in Monty. I have checked extension chord and 30 amp plug in house and they are ok. Just plugs in RV give reading. Batteries also went dead and needed major charge. I have cleaned teriminals on batteries. Any help much appreciated.

I would assume you are using a 30 to 50 amp adapter cord and an extension that is original to the rig. If both of these check out and show no problem then I would suspect the plug for the trailer. It sounds like the ground wire may have come loose and is making contact with one of the hot legs. It is remotely possible for this to happen but I would never suspect that happening in the breaker panel in the RV itself. Since the cords and RV plug are subject to the most abuse I would expect the problem to be there somewhere.

Depending on how long the RV sat without power, it is certainly possible for the batteries to discharge and that can happen quite rapidly if they are in poor condition. Did the unit sit any length of time unplugged before it was brought home.

Did you charge the batteries with a charger or were they charged with the converter in the RV after you found they were dead.

About all I can offer, perhaps others might have more idea's.

Rig sat for 3 months after it got home without being plugged in. I plugged it in and saw ground reverse so unplugged it and was not able to get back till now. I think batteries are gone which I can replace. Just don't want to do it till I find out a fix for other problem. Will try your suggestions.
