50 amp cord end

Went to plug in the 50 amp cord and no power. Traced it down to the plug that twists into the rear of the Monty. My question is how does this thing come apart?

The black sheathing around the wires has pulled away from the base of the yellow twist plug and I think this has put stress on the wires over time. Need to get it apart to verify this is the problem and then re-wire it.

Thanks,

Phil

I had the same problem. I just undid the screws and took it apart. I had to shorten the wires and recut the black casing to get it back up into the plug. I used electrical tape around the black cord to hold it in the plug better before I put it back together. Just don't be plugged in, or you will get a surprise. I am sure over time with the weight of the cord, heating up, cooling off it just pulls out of the plug.

Mine also pulled away, but had no malfunction. I used black duct tape to reinforce the power cord going into the recepticle. I have also always used a bungee cord to hang the power cord to take weight off that plug. On the 2002 and 2005, looped the power cord and hung off the ladder, and with the 2010, off the hitch. Always have thought the weight of the wiring put too much stress on the plug.

thanks for the replies! I found the screws and got it opened up and one of the wires had pulled out. Took it all apart and reinstalled the wires. What a pain that was! Stinks to have fat fingers, big wires and small plug .
All is working like new again.

Thanks for reminding me to make sure it is unplugged, that's a surprise I would rather not have

Here's a tip - if you lose L1 or L2, you will lose half of your circuits in the 5er. If you lose the neutral (white wire) you will end up with close to 240 volts throughout your 5er and every appliance that has least resistance, like your microwave and converter, will go poof! Check the neutral!

Another post that shows the importance of the EMS. If the neutral would have pulled out of the cord the EMS would not allow the connection.
On edit I should say for the hardwired one, not the one that hangs on the pedestal as this one would not protect from problems with the cord.
