Anyone using a Harbor Freight inverter? Happy or sad?
Thanks,
Mike

Mike I would get a Pure Sine Inverter, I bought a 3,000 Watt Inverter from them, but hesitated to use it because it was a Modified Sine. They may have pure sine..I don't know.
I had a Coleman.
My thought is that when you need one, it should be something all that you want to power up can be. Safely..
One of my favorites:
The bitterness of poor quality remains, long after the sweetness of the cheap price is gone.
Good luck in your search buddy.

If you are going to get one, make sure it's a Pure Sine Wave.

Don't you just love answers to questions you never asked?
As for your question, yes there is a group of us who utilize the Harbor Freight inverters. My last one lasted 7 years before I sold the trailer (I bought another for the RV - now 2 years old). RPHoward has an eight year old model which is still working fine. And no, they are not pure sine wave inverters.

I think Mike appreciates people trying to help him, even answering questions not asked.
My first Coleman Inverter lasted about 2 hrs until it went Tango Uniform. (From Harbor Freight)

From Don Rowe.com seller of inverters
The difference between them is the Pure Sine Wave inverter produces a better and cleaner current. They are also considerably more expensive. You might find it practical to get a small Pure Sine Wave inverter for any "special need" you may have, and also a larger Modified Sine Wave inverter for the rest of your applications.

OK, pardon my ignorance on the subject in discussion folks BUT why change from that provided as original equipment with the trailer?

This discussion is about an Inverter, a device which takes 12V DC power and produces 120V AC power. This enables you run 120V devices (TV, Stereo, microwave, etc.) when you are not connected to shore power. Montana does not supply one with their RVs.
It does supply a Converter, a device which takes in 120V AC and produce 12V DC to charge batteries.

Some inverters do have built in chargers. Mine does. I just simply unplugged the converter and use the charger in my inverter. I figure if the charger dies when on the road I can simply just plug the converter back in to charge the batteries. Plus my inverter/charger is in the generator compartment, so I don't have to listen to the fan on it like I did with the converter when under a load.

Hey Charlie,
tks for the donrowe.com site. It is loaded with product, faq's, etc for better understanding of inverters. Tks pineranch for your question. You got alot of info back that is very helpful to me, who knows little about inverters.
