To lube or not to lube slides

When we bought our new 2005 2955rL, we were told on our walk thru not to lube the slides. Slides going in and out sounded awful , like someone banging pots and pans. We were told that it was normal for them to make noise. However when we took it in to be checked because when it was in it just didntlook straight , it was very quite. We asked them why it was all of a sudden quiet and they told us they lubed it. But would evetually be noisy once again. So now we are wondering who was right? Do we lube it or not? and is it a special lube? We also had to have new brake shoes all around as a sensor was faulty, we have only used it 3 times each time was a 300 mile trip. Anyone else have this problem?

Bud and Monti,
The slides should make a little noise but not a lot. And yes they must be lubed from time to time. The slide seals should also be lubed with the special stuff they require. The guy you need to direct your question to is on the MOC. He is MIMF.... he works for Lippert Industries which supply the slide mechanical parts. He can give you all the info you will need.

Bud and Monti,

It is necessary once in awhile to lube the slide mechanism. However, generally all you need to do is keep it clean. But, if you do lube it, use either a dry-graphite or silicone. Both come in spray aersol cans. All that needs to be sprayed is the gear rack on the under-side of the inner tube and the spur gear in the gear pack assembly. Where those teeth mesh is the ONLY place there is metal-to-metal contact in the system. If the sides and top of the inner tube are sprayed, it is a waste because, the sides of those tubes rub or touch nothing

The reason we recommend dry-graphite or silicone is because, with using oil-based lubricants, oils, greases, etc, will cause dirt to stick and wear the system out prematurely.
