Bought ours in Nevada and they, too, have the on/off lever. In our case, I know that if I leave the lever in the "off" position, the generator will starve for lack of air/fuel. In fact, that is why it will draw from our 6 gallon marine tank - it is getting the air from the top of the marine tank and is helping to suck the gas into the Hondas/

We went to our local Honda store and saved a little over $200.00 on a pair of 2000's

My local Honda Dealer would not go down a dime from the list price. I like to buy local, but not for amost $200.00 difference.
