So, does the fuel filter life minder read differential pressure, or is the % of use based on other perimeters, as the oil life minder is? Seems I had read on DP, way back when the trucks came out with them in late 05, that they merely used mileage for the percentage of filter life. I did a little reading earlier, but never found the answer to this question.

And steves wins the dog hair covered half Tootsie Roll!! It was the fuel filter and the computer code for the last error was "low fuel pressure". I am waiting for the truck to cool a bit so I can replace the old with the new without burning my fingers. Unfortunately there are no Advance Auto Parts stores in Eagle River and it cost me 31 bucks for less than 2 minutes work with the reader. And it cost me another 41 for the filter. I will be picking up a second filter as backup just in case BP is the only diesel in town again... will bang the oysters and shrimp out of the old filter and forward them to Carol along with a tiny bit of cocktail sauce..

Dave,
Glad to hear that it was only the filter. That's a relatively easy fix.

Glad everything worked out ok for you guys and it was relatively easy to fix the problem. I hate to hear of people having trouble but we all can all learn from ones experience when sharing it on here. Thanks for sharing!

It might be worth calling your local Auto Zone or Advanced parts store. I think some of them will do a free diagnostic check.

Jonnyg, the nearest Autozone or Advance Auto is a 70 mile drive one way, cheaper to buy here in the area. Tom S, no "deer in the headlight" here, that filter has got less than 7K on it. When the computer says 25% I change it and that has been right at 12K. Traveling around down south I thought the fuel might be bad, but had to wait till I got home to find dirty fuel. We only have 2 stations in town, a Citgo and a BP, the Citgo is always cheaper but I hate doing business with them and their diesel pump was blocked at the time anyway so I had to go to BP. The next nearest station is 22 miles away. Anyway I will buy another filter before we hit the road again...

Might keep an eye on that thing. I believe the code can be for several different fuel pressure issues from the reading I did. Actually, the filter has a vacuum on it. Hate to see you get out on the road and lose power again.

Ditto on not doing business with the Chavez bunch.

It is not always possible but I try to never get fuel from a place that just had their tanks filled. They stir up a lot of sediment when they are refilling tanks.
