Blown Turbo Hose - UPDATE

UPDATE: Went to the Ford dealer to get a new clamp and ended up with the parts guy, a service tech and the service manager looking at our hose. Turns out our turbo is all "coked up" (and I thought that went out in the 80's) which caused the problem and will continue to cause a problem if not cleaned up. So, we're getting it cleaned up and will start putting cetane in the fuel to keep it from happening again. This seems to be a necessity for 6.0 and 6.4 Ford diesels. I think there is a thread about this that I didn't pay enough attention to. If anything new useful info comes along about this, I'll post it.


Well, it must be because I read Hazmic's post about the new Ford diesels. Pulling the grade on I68 West in West Virginia, at 20 psi, our turbo hose blew off. You may recall we had this same problem last Sept in Elkhart after the rally. Then it blew off a couple of times more and they had to replace the turbo completely. We had to be towed to a campground in the steep WV hills and even had to have the c/g owners son-in-law come with his big tractor to help us get into a site. Hopefully we can get the truck in for repair within the next day or so. Our granddaughter is really getting antsy for us to get there.

Some of the guys on Dieselplace cleaned the hose and sprayed with hair spray before clamping it back. Might try that.

That is strange that it would be fine for so long then blow off at 20 psi. I have had mine blow off and was lucky to find it laying on engine under hose. I've added a wire between the two in hope that I won't loose clamp if I have a re-occurrence. Good luck.

The rubber in these hoses are silicone based rubber. they weaken and get slick when exposed to heat and oil. Go to dieselsite.com and buy a set of hoses. Problem solved. Better still call Aaron Rudolph at Rudy's Performance. Aaron is a good honest business man he will help you.

Ford also has a upgrade clamps. Also oil gets under the hose. get the new upgrade clamps, take the hose off, clean with alcohol, then no more problem. also it takes only about 5 minutes to put the hose back on and tighten the clamp if it does it again

Ach! Frustrating. Since I tow alone most of the time I elected to get rid of the truck and be done with the problem all together after being stranded hauling out of Yosemite..

Had the hose blow off our 2005 6.0, twice. The second time they installed a new style clamp that supposedly had just been issued by Ford. We put another 70k miles or so on the Ford before trading it (91k total) and no more hoses blowing off. I wonder if those replacing yours are using some old stock that is still on their shelves.
