Eating across Texas

Last night we had some of the best bbq we have had in a long time from Smokey Moe's BBQ, in Willis, TX. The bones are big and meaty and the sauce reminds me of the homemade sauce from the old neighborhoods in Detroit. Yes, it was that good! Gonna get some bottles of that sauce to travel with and bring home!

That is why Texas considers round as being in shape!

Round is a shape, right?

Had we been able to meet you we would have suggested the Potato Patch, just East of I45, on FM-1960. It's about 30 miles from you and 60 from us. Also, if you drive down ti FM-105, Conroe, and head West, you will find all kinds of eating establishments, all of which are good. Continuing West, turn North on FM-149, then Right on FM-1097, and you'll be back in Willis, going through the Houston National Forest.

Country Kitchen on FM-105 has some great catfish.

Happy trails.

Edited: p.s. If you want to treat the young lady to a great meal, there is a Japanese restaurant less than a quarter mile on the left as you turn off of I-45 on FM-105. You can get the traditional Japanese food, or sit at the Tabinaki table and pay the price for a feast. For impressing the lady, you will need your pocket book (or hers) and sit at the Tabinaki table.

For better "points," let her think it was your idea.

You are/were in the heart of Texas BBQ country in the Willis area. Lucky people! If you get to the Austin area, check out Rudy's for excellent barbeque and sides, too, in a great casual atmosphere. We think it's some of the best barbeque we've ever eaten, and we're native Texans who grew up eating barbeque a couple of times a week. We've been away from Austin for several years now, but always eat at Rudy's (at either the Highway 360 or Highway 183 locations) every time we're back in Texas. When our youngest daughter was married a few years ago, we took the Montana (the state, not the RV!) wedding party to Rudy's for a meal when they arrived in Austin. Since then, we've had to take some of them with us every time we return to Austin because they want another meal at Rudy's.

It's not BBQ, but another favorite place of ours for the best and most reasonable seafood around is Pacific Star on Highway 183 at Anderson Mill Road. (Don't blink or you'll miss it.) There's definitely NO place there to park with a rig behind you, but I'd unhitch and go eat there without a second thought. I think Rudy's does have plenty of parking for RV's at their 360 and 183 locations.

Boy, Texas is a big state if you're going to eat your way across! Take your time, and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!
