Yes, the 60CS is the GPS receiver and Streets & Trips is my mapping software on the laptop. The laptop sits on a Jotto Pole in the truck. The 60CS sits on the dash. I connect them together with a cable I purchased from Garmen. It provides power to the 60CS and connects the 60CS to the laptop serial port. I get a little icon on the map to show where we are.
Having the 60CS allows me to remove it from the truck when we go hiking and I have GPS with me.
I had to purchase MapSource from Garmen to be able to add local details to the 60CS. I tried the trip planning feature of MapSource but I don't like it as well as Streets & Trips. My personnal opinion.
Again this is because the little screen on the 60CS is hard to see when traveling.

Thanks BigBlue. Do you have a pointer/url for this Garmin cable?

Yes
Here is the URL on Garmin's site: http://shop.garmin.com/accessory.jsp...0%2D10165%2D00
Just copy it into your address line and you should be taken to the site.
