3685FL and recliners
At the January 2004 RV show in Tampa I had my first look at the 3685FL with the front living room. In the 2 front slides set 2 sofas. When the Montana rep was queried about an option on 2 recliners in place of 1 of the sofas we were told that a recliner option was not offered. The reasoning was that the sofas hide the slide mechanisms.
Well Montana, I hate to say this but I was at a smaller RV show today in Tampa and was reaquainted with the 3685FL and it's 2 sofas. Coincidently directly across the isle was a Silverado 5th wheel with it's front livingroom. BUT the Silverado had a sofa in the street side slide and 2 recliners in the curb side slide with nary a sign of any slide mechanisim and they even had outside storage under the slides.
Anyway back to the subject,
Hey Keystone...
What I'd like to say if... Cross Roads can do it with the Silverado why can't Keystone do it to the Montana????

Glenn, were there slides on both sides of the livingroom like the 3685FL? The prior FLR model, the 3655FL, had a sofa and two recliners but just a slide on the sofa side.

I know this is not the place to reply but the 3685 is like our 3655, the slides are electric not hydrolic. They take up quite a bit of space for the mech, motor, etc. If hydrolic slide were used as in the other slides, there would have been more space. Right now there is no space to put recilners in a 3685FL as we have in the 3655FL. Maybe Keystone will change the slide mech on later models.

The other thing is the slides are all enclosed. other companies put the slide rails under the slide exposed. I like them hidden, especially in the front ones where the underside is visible. The only was to get a flat floor is to mount them underneath and put a skirt on them.

John, The Silverado did have the 2 rails exposed under the slide but it wouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure out away to totally enclose them.
Also, these rails appeared to run under the living room floor when the slide is in. Therefore there is no need for 2 sofas or any sofas to hide the mechanism.

Glenn,
I had asked the rep almost the same question back in Jan at the rv show up here, and I got the same answer as you. I would have bought the 3685 if I could have had like you said, 1 sofa and 2 chairs in the other slide. They need to find a way to make this happen and then offer the sofa with a hide a bed and not just the J-beds. Then I saw the 3400RL and it was all over. Ordered it in less than 15mins of being in it.

Thanks for the great info. I was wondering if it was possible to order two chairs with one sofa. Maybe by the time I order it might be an option. Happyrving....

In order to "hide" the slide rails under the floor like on the Silverado, you would need to cut a 4" square hole in the tube of your upper deck. This is how you accomplish a "flat floor" slide on the main level of your unit. Montana is not comfortable with this engineering in an area as critical to structural integrity as an upper deck. Consequently, they have chosen to only put the rails above the floor on the 3685. If it made sense to cut holes in the upper deck rails, all manufacturers would currently be doing it with their bedroom slides to provide a lot more storage under the bed.

the 3685 as in our 2003 3655FL front slide has a electric slide and not hydrolic like all of the other slides. If Keystone changed to hydrolic slides, two swivel rockers could be placed there. Right now the devans hide the electric motors and slide mech. That is why we chose to go back to the front bedroom and get more space in the living room by ordering the 2005 3475rl. The electric slide is slow and I always wondered if it was going to make it out.
