How do clean the mildew on the rubber trim on the outside of your rv?

I am assuming you have white windows and trim. Our SOB has that and we tried everything - black streak remover, mildew remover, diluted bleach, some natural products. I got sick of fighting it. When we got this rig, we made absolutely positive we had black windows and trim. I am going to follow this thread closely and see if anyone has had success. It's a question I've asked a million times. Good luck!

I'm not sure if this is the correct name for them but try the Mr. Clean eraser sponge. They're blue and white. Use the white side.

As an aside to this, my neighbour has just painted the vinyl trim strips on his SOB! He got fed up with trying to keep them clean.

Stacy, I bet those Mr. Clean sponges would do it. I wish they had them on the market when I was fighting with my windows. Great suggestion!

I recently moved from probably one of the toughest areas of the country (south of Houston) to keep the mildew from forming on the trim. This what I used and it worked well but had to stay with the program to keep the stain off. I would mix one ounce of "Consan" with one ounce of bleach in a quart spray bottle and soak the trim about once a week. Never scrubbed or wiped down and my trim is a clean and bright as the day I pulled the Montana off the lot three years ago. Check this link, it can be bought a such places as nurseries and farm supply stores.

My concern with spraying anything on is it getting on the gel coat and other areas and may cause discoloration. Would it be just as easy to use a small paint brush?

Where you are you are well aware of the humidity. I was about half way between West Columbia and Sweeny. This is a fungicide that is formulated for yard and house plants. I have used it with other applications and it will dry up any mold or mildew even on painted walls and will not discolor. It will not harm the environment nor gel-coat on a trailer.

This quote is from their link: "Use Consan to treat Downy Mildew development on cut flowers, to wash interior and exterior walls, to add to paints to act as a mildewcide, to control odors in carpets, to add to laundry for odor-free sanitation, and for spot disinfection."

On the order of the eraser sponge, BonAmi and a sponge has worked well for us cleaning trim. BonAmi is fine enough it does not scratch and it's one of those old time solutions. JB

Humidity? There is no heat without Gulf Coast Humidity.

Thanks for the information I will look into purchasing some of the Consan. I am concerned about the bleach, but since you have been using it with no problems - guess it's a go. 50/50 solution.

I'd be careful using some of the more potent solutions noted above...they will take the wax off.
