I have Direct TV and when we move I just call them up and tell them I have changed my physical location and need the local channels and within a few minutes it is done. I also get the East/West Coast channels too.

How often can you do this?

I plan to be on the road a good portion of this summer, traveling from the west coast, to the deep south, to the midwest, through the Rockies and back home.

Do they ever catch on? What happens to your stick house cable DVR?

We carry our Directv receivers from the house whenever we go anywhere. I have never worried about calling them to get the local channels changed simply because I just use the over-the-air antenna to get to local channels from whatever area we are in. Our travels to date have been limited to the east coast, so I am wondering if this is an issue when heading into the western part of the country? Oh, and so as not to stray completely off of the OP's topic, we love out Trav'ler, best thing we have ever done as an option to the rig!

Bingo - Every summer we stay 2-3 weeks at an RV park in southern Colorado. No over the air at all as it is far from any population center. And no cable at that park. So we have to get Denver locals via Dish sat.
And a couple times we have stayed at a city RV park in the Texas hill country in Kerrville, TX. Although it is only around 70 miles from San Antonio/Austin there is very weak over the air reception, from the hills I guess. And they also have no cable service. So again we rely on Dish sat for the San Antonio/Austin locals.
But most places we have stayed did have over the air and/or cable service available.

I believe Direct will make the change when you are located in the same area for a "while", weeks/months. If you try to make the change every few days or every week they will identify that you are moving and probably an RV. They will then want to change your plan to the RV plan. The national feed for ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS are provided not any local feeds. The change of service address does impact any receivers left behind at the stick house as they send the change to all receivers. If you elect to call and make the service address change make sure not to change the billing address.
