haha
all good info, I'm really on the fence weather to get them now or not. Since I never have had them, maybe ill just wait until I see if there is a necessity for them.

We have settled on the Oregon Coast and the wind, makes them way to noisy. So they are off in the shed for now, if we travel again someday, I will reinstall. There is no trees in this park and the slides do not leak and in not hot here in the summer. So for now it is all good, much quieter to sleep at night.

I think from reading here for the last two years, slide toppers are like cats: You either love them, or can't figure out the reason anyone would ever have them. I'm the latter myself.

We have had the toppers on both our Montana's. WE normally are in areas with a lot of trees and debris collects on the top of the slides. We are surprised at the noise issue reported by many. The awnings will flap in a high wind but it has to be a pretty high wind we have never had them be noisy for any length of time or bothered us to the point were we thought they were a bad idea. The main awning does flap and bounce in a high wind and is noisy but it can be retracted. IMO the pro's way out weigh any cons fopr us.

We also spend a lot of time in Kansas and New Mexico, both very windy places and haven't had a problem with our toppers bothering us in the wind more than very occasionally.

I see lots of pros. But I think I am gonna hold off for the tome being simply because I have never HD them before and never needed them. Its an expensive add on. Maybe add them down the road in a few years if I see the need. For now I just want to get my first trip under my belt

I have had them but chose not to put them on my new 375FL. They are noisy in storms, get frozen to the roof in snow and ice and keep your from getting the slide in until spring. Debris will get under them making it tough to clean the roof. I suppose they lower the roof temperature but they cost a lot in maintenance and cleaning especially if they hold water. I had two damaged in snow storms. I favor the net/screen types if you can find the material. Itwould b nice to have ones that are easily detached so you could use them in summer but not in winter.

Huh,I had those issues with my first 2004 Monty with slide toppers because they were old and sagged but my 2012 and my 2015 especially my 2015 they are tighter and angled down instead of being installed flat like my 2004 , the new one's are ALOT BETTER and I do not have most of those issue's like you said AKA debris under the awning????Never.. and a bunch of maintenence..Nope ,I have never cleaned them and they still look great(being black in color helps) and big pools of water???not much and when they do a little wind blows off the water,BUT yeah no matter how good the new one's are they will still make noise in 45+MPH winds for sure unlike my 2004 where they would Howl and flap in 20MPH wind

Had 2 rigs before my new Montana. Did not have toppers on those rigs and would get up early on the day of departure to clean the slide tops. Would squeegee the tops for moisture and in the rain would towel off the water that came in with the slides. For me, it was a no-brainer to put toppers on the new rig. One less thing to worry about when buttoning up for departure. Cost is relative. Mine, in black, installed on 5 slides was $2244.91. They DO look cool.

I just made pvc supports for mine....no wind noise... and made them so the water runs off the end of the topper.

I think you have enough info to make a decision. I wouldn't have a slider without them.

My wife didn't give me a choice claiming "Your climbing days are over". She's afraid of heights and I walk with a cane and leg brace and agreed I probably don't belong on the roof regularly to sweep slides.

The toppers are very nice; keep the rain, snow and debris off slides and make departure much easier. I think they help with the temperature also by keeping the sun off the slide top and the associated heat migration. And, they do look nice.

I believe it would be easy for a healthy, reasonably handy climber (like a fireman!) and friend to install the toppers. I watched as mine were installed - seemed easy enough. There are several UTUBE videos and articles if you search for "rv slide topper installation". A few years ago there was one on Trailer Life TV also.
