Mike,
I bought 3/8" all-thread, bent it in a U-shape and will mount with that method.

We mounted the square fence post cover in front of the landing gear last night. I'll try to get a pic posted soon. Actually looks pretty good up under there. I made a couple of pins using 1/4" rod and snap pins to hold the caps on.

I went about mounting my tube a little differently. I rolled a 2" wide piece of aluminum about 22" long and bent the ends up to make mounting ears. The spacer block is also aluminum radiused on one end to match the tube. The spacer thru hole to the frame is recessed to allow the cross hole for the bolt that goes thru the strap to work. No worries on getting into any wires or hoses with the frame bolt as it's on the outer lip of the I beam. The nut is accessable by sticking your arm underneath the propane tanks along the outer frame. I've also read some concerns about having to have a center support ... My tube is schedule 40 with the mounts on the outer lip of the main frame. It's carried a 16' X 7' wet carpet many miles with no indication of sag. I doubt if the ladder some are going to carry weighs any more. If you do make the strap be sure to use 6061 aluminum as 7075 is too brittle for the long term.

Thanks for the tips. I will let you know how it turns out. I think I am going to us plumbers strap, I know how to handle that the best.

Hi, newbie poster here. Last year I put on 6 8" storage tubes, 3 front, 3 rear. I used schedule 35 sewer pipe and sch 40 caps. Had the 1 piece brackets made at the local welding shop, 2" wide, 1/8" strap. Tubes are about 7' long, just inside the tire width. Mounted the tubes and brackets with self-tappers in the I beam. Sure makes alot storage, bag chairs, rugs, chocks, stabilizer tripod (hafta take one leg off) satellite tripod (hafta take one leg off) wife (hafta take one leg off, fishin' poles. Hope I did this picture thing right, mick

Mixperl,
Welcome to the club! Man, you are Mr. Storage! Might as well use that space down there. Not too much back seat driving from the missus when you put her down there, either!
Tell us and show a picture of the rear tool box if you can.
See you around the Forum.

Hi Ozz, thanks for the welcome. Previous owner of our 3280 (everything I have is used, truck, fiver, dogs, shotguns, wife) had a 2" receiver hitch put on to carry bikes. We're not bike folks, so bought the rack and bolted a tool box to it. The rack had alot of play in it with just the hitch pin, so reamed it out and shimmed it up with aluminum angle, drilled out the hole and put in a 5/8 bolt. No wobble now. mick

Mick & Brenda, welcome to the MOC Forum.
Love your pictures, great work. Ok Ozz, you'll have to pick it up a notch. There's competition out there now.

Mixperl - that is one fine looking storage box on your Monty. I assume you mounted your receiver hit direct to the frame....was it bolted or welded on? I know Keystone say to not do either but I would really like to have a hitch to pull my bass boat.

Mike, great rack!
Looks very nice, I will try and get one for our Monte, but must have the bikes.
John, it's great, takes the pressure off!
I have my extensive list down to under 10 now, (was around 30 items) so I am winding down.
Sue sweetened up the fresh water tank with bleach and vinegar and finished calibrating the Vena tank monitor today.
Good to have new creative blood on the Forum!

Hi Native Tex, You"re right, welded and bolted to the beams. Looks plenty stout. I've not pulled anything yet. But my bride "big Pearl" has stood on it to wash the windows. That tells me it ought to pull a freightliner. Lord, I hope she nevers figgers out how to get on this site. mick

Ozz,

Let me know what you think of your Vena tank monitor after you get it all set up.
I put a Vena AC/DC monitor in 3 or 4 months ago it is a great help monitoring DC amp draw
and AC voltage.

Thanks J&D
