Heating Vents
Not sure this qualifies as an improvement but this was my first weekend out in our new 2955 and I did something I've done on all my camping vehicles. I purchased some plastic screen material from the local hardware and took all my heat vents off and then cut the screen material to fit the hole and then re-installed the vents. This prevents items from falling into the heat ducts and if something falls into the vent you can usually retreive it without taking the vent grate off.
In this case it also allowed me to do a little final cleaning, it appeared as though the Montana assembly team thought these holes in the floor were a grand place to sweep the excess materials. I found everything from wire scraps to wood pieces and three extra screws that over the long haul I can probably use.
Like I said, probably not a revolution or even deserving of a spot here, but it's always worked for me.

Great idea, That's one of the things on my winter list to do before next spring's camping season. I might even get to it yet this year. We have noticed a lot of little crumbs and things sitting on the bottom of the vent.

I found some filter inserts that go in the floor vents. Had to trim them a bit but so far they seem to work ok. These are about 1/4" thick filter cloth and came 6 in a package. They were in the extra stuff box that came with our used Montana. Probably something from Lowe's etc for home floor vents.

Great idea! I've already had to remove the grille twice to get little things that my grandson dropped down there. Just happen to have some left over screen from Francis and Jeanne last year, hope I won't need it for Wilma.

Mac, that's exactly the kind of thing to be posted here. And a good one, at that. Thanks for posting it. I keep meaning to do the screen thing but haven't got around to it. I did pull the screws out of the grates, though. They sit in their spot on the floor just fine without the screws, at least on ours. But the screens would be a good idea.

With the past three campers, I have simply removed the vent screws so that we could just lift out the vents for cleaning. We have not experienced any problems with the vents lacking screws over our 17 years of camping. Just a thought.

Here is something we did to help keep the cold air in hot weather from going down into the heat ducts & basement (cold air flows downward). Bought some magnetic rubber material (approx. 1/8 thick) from Wal-Mart and cut it the size of the floor heat register vents and then painted it to match the carpet (you can even bend it and the paint doesn't crack), this also helps to keep stuff from falling in the vents. Just be sure to remove them when you turn on the furnace.
