2014 Mon High Country Axles

If any of you 2014 High Country owners know positively what your axles are rated please post a reply. Some think 5200 and some think 6000. I need to know from those who know for sure. Thanks

I have a 2015 model 305RL, mine are 5200 lb., but it's the same axle for the 2014 models. There is usually a white sticker on the axles indicating the capacity of the axles. Some of the longer, heavier HC models might have a 6000lb. axle.

All stamped on the rear of the axle. No weight savings to be made by using 5.2, 6k axles in lieu of 7k and having trouble-free miles during life span. Yeah, a few $ here, a few there and while at it...why not make the lite product a zillion feet long. Saw one with its wheels looking like they were shifted forward sooooooo long was the overhang in the back...grasshopper model. John

My 2014 318RE High Country has the 5200 lb axles. I just checked the rating tag last night.

Should be on the VIN tag on the lower left front, GAWR. I can't see any way with a 14,000# GVWR not to have minimum 6000# axles. 12,500# would be about all 5200# axles would support

Got to remember 20% or so is on the truck. Axles don't have to support the entire weight of the rig the TV carries some of it.

Agree with all, but reason axles get bent hitting rough road is the shock loading means the trailer weight isn't just what it normally is. And even if the manufacturer has some upside in the axle design, the roads slip away faster than they can be maintained and we all tend to load them heavy. Just the way I look at things. John

OK, who knows how much cushion they have built into these axles? I mean my 2017 3820FK has a GVWR of 16,810, and we have 7,000 lb. axles. If I am ever maxed out, my pin weight will be about 3,100 pounds, and that leaves 13,710 pounds on the two trailer axles. That's awfully close to 7k per axle? So my question to anyone that knows, how much cushion do they have built in here? If not, then this is crazy to be living on the edge?

BAMA CAMPER How much clearance is there from the top of the tires to the top of the wheel well? There is only 2 3/4" on drivers side on my trailer and with 3" travel on the CRE 3000 I am seeing some problems. If you would tell me what your is I would appreciate it. Thanks from Pell City.

Driver's side rear 3.75"
Driver's side front 4"
Passenger side rear 4"
Passenger side front 4.5"

According to the CRE3000 documentation, 3" is the correct travel for the shackle.

What kind of problems? Hitting the top of your wheel well? Wouldn't that be a function of the springs (not the axles)? I looked but didn't see any scuff marks on my wheel well. If not the springs, you may have a broken shackle link. Look where the end of the springs mount to the CRE3000 and where it mounts to the other end on a frame support. I had a broken shackle link on a previous 5th wheel and it dropped a wheel all the way to rub a hole in the wheel well!

I assume you haven't got it loaded heavy - my trailer weight is 11,620, with 8,680 on the wheels and 2940 on the pin.

My 2016 High Country 310RE has 6000# Axles. The axle rating is for static loading. Presumably dynamic loading is considered in the rating, design dynamic loading (from what I've read) is 1.8:1. Not sure what the industry safety factor is, but if I was designing it it would at least 2x.

This tread got me wondering so I went out and checked mine. I have a 2016 HC 375FL. Mine has the 7000 pound axels

Yeah, I think Keystone went to 6K axles in 2015 on our models. I haven't had any problems, but I wish I had them.

I have a 318 with 5200 axles.. but remember about 20 percent of trailer weight is on truck so they are sufficient

My 2016 High Country 375 FL has 7,000 lb axles according to the axle info. My GVWR is 15,200 and dry weight is just under 12,000.

If you crawl under the unit and look at the axles they all have the weight marked on them. It is either stamped on the axle itself or there is a tag on the axle that tells you the model # and weight. On our old unit a 2004 2980, we had 6000 lb axles on it and I had one go bad down in Texas. They replaced it with a 7000 lb and I called Dexter to see if it would make any difference with two different weight axles on the unit. They said it would not hurt at all but to make sure I was running nearly level when towing because a lot of people tow nose high on their units and that puts extra pressure and weight on the rear axle which they said was not a good idea.

FYI, I contacted Dexter provided my VIN# and they faxed me the build sheet for the axles. All info from build date to bearing and break numbers.
